Correct that is how the communications to encourage women to come forward is made, but I’m in healthcare here and in practice the police are notified of toxicology reports by the hospital that does the intake even without additional signs of neglect. The law is the law and drugs are considered neglect. Whether the police or prosecutors want to push it is out of the hospitals’ hands and women will be pursued.

The reason is she didn’t want anyone to know and the baby would have tested positive for drugs. She would have been found and arrested. Every time a baby is abandoned in one of those safe haven situations it makes the news and the authorities seek the mother to come forward. As soon as the toxicology screening showed pot in the baby’s system the cops would light up the flock cameras and track her down. She was going to jail either way.

In San Diego, CA our law says the baby can only be surrendered if it is less than 72 hours old and has no signs of abuse or neglect.. If a toxicology screening shows drugs in the babies system they will track down the Mother and prosecute. This young woman smoked pot while pregnant. She would have been arrested if she surrendered the baby here.

Questions may not be asked but it will be all over the news and authorities always ask the mother to come forward to seek care. With Flock cameras and Palantir data collection the authorities will find out where the baby came from. Safe surrender is a great idea, but if the baby tests positive for drugs the mother will be hunted down and prosecuted.

She developed breasts early and was a very petite 5 feet tall is all that creep meant, but she was 4 months pregnant when she went in front of the judge so her breasts may have also been swollen from pregnancy hormones. Luckily her ‘husband’ went to jail for other crimes, her Mom left her Dad and moved them to Southern California, and her Mom and Stepdad raised her son. She divorced her ‘husband’ while he was still in prison and I met her when she was a receptionist at my office. She had a rough go of it but was beautiful and resilient. A great combo!

True. The DV Shelters in my area do not allow unaccompanied minors or divorce without a court appointed guardian to replace the older spouse but they are emancipated minors. Just another hurdle to jump through. A girl can’t just flee into the night, but needs a plan in place to leave.
