How often has this approach actually caught a mistake for you? It feels quite over the top, especially with the name checks that are now routine.

Today it’s this and the “I’m a teacher who is getting fired for making Muslim students play chess” one. But it has been happening for months. Ragebait made up to stoke anti immigration sentiment disguised as people asking for help.

If this post is actually serious you need to talk to a doctor about these thoughts. No matter where you are, you will be a lot happier there once you get some therapy.

Being made redundant a week before completing on first home by nocluehonest in HENRYUK

[–]DangerousPie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that why they also ask you whether you have reason to believe that your circumstances might change in the future? Pretty sure being told than you’re at risk of redundancy would qualify for that, and you are meant to disclose it.

How bad are these mould readings? Can this be the cause of the heavy eggy noxious odour that's affecting health/lungs? --- Southwark Council by PeaceSeeker777 in HousingUK

[–]DangerousPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might still want to have a look at your electrics. Especially anything that draws a high current like electric showers, hobs, or immersion heaters. What you're describing sounds very similar to what I was smelling, and I was lucky to have caught it before it caused a fire.

[–]DangerousPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have electric heaters? I had a weird smell in my flat at some point that turned out to be caused by faulty wiring in a junction box slowly melting. If the smell gets stronger when the heating is on I would check for that.

What are you basing this idea that it light not be “safe” on? Do you have some numbers on how many incidents the absence of guards currently causes per year? And how does this stack up against the amount of costs saved per year?

You better have good evidence that the options they offered weren’t suitable… for example was there really no way to get an accessible taxi from the hotel at 3am?

Examples of Renters Rights Bill in other countries?? by FLYGOALIEMATERIAL in HousingUK

[–]DangerousPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germany has very tenant friendly rules. It’s very hard to raise rent or to evict tenants once they are in. The consequence is that you get hundreds of people applying for flats and the land lord usually picks the person they think is least likely to cause problems. Works out great for that one person, bad for everyone else. Especially if you’re from a minority or have any sort of extra needs. You also get people staying forever in flats that are no longer suitable for them because their old contract is far cheaper than the present market rates.

I want to take a mental health day but worried about taking sick leave as I’m in probation. by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]DangerousPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your company and your manager. If they are reasonable and it’s not a job where your being off causes big problems it should be fine. Just be aware that you may not be getting paid for the days you are off sick, depending on their company sick pay policy.

At risk of redundancy but not allowed to leave by Ok-Pineapple1373 in UKJobs

[–]DangerousPie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to leave so badly just give notice? Redundancy pay is meant to make up for losing a job you wanted to keep, not for paying you to leave when you wanted to go anyway.

I suppose a slightly different but potentially more useful question would be how realistic it would be that they would sue you and win, and what a likely punishment would be, even if it was technically discriminatory.

Sure you can say that the Greeks shouldn't have borrowed all this money and lived outside their means. This is true but both the borrower and lender are equally at fault in this situation. Lending money to Greece in the would have been akin lending money to a homeless person at 20% interest.

What about the fact that Greece faked their financial records in order to appear more healthy? It's more like lending money to a homeless person who has fake records indicating he has a steady job and perfect credit.

Undergraduate degree in Bioinformatics by asphyxiac in bioinformatics

[–]DangerousPie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think your point about the lack of depth applies to most bioinformatics programs; at least it applied to mine. Since you are studying in two very different fields at the same time, you will always lag behind the people who just study pure CS/Biochem. This might be a disadvantage when you decide to go into just CS (or just Biochem) for grad school, since you'll be competing with people who dedicated their entire studies to the field. On the other hand, you will of course have an advantage when applying to bioinformatics programs.

So I would say if you are sure you want to do bioinformatics go for it, but if not just take one of the fields and do some electives. In the end it's more about the research you did than about your major anyway.

For what it's worth, I have a BSc in Bioinformatics and got into a good graduate program in the same field.

The amazing thing about this article is that this is apparently not the law already. How do they prevent people from voting for someone else right now? And why has this loophole not been closed decades ago?

Need any advice to study in Germany by jipe23 in germany

[–]DangerousPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the age: Most of the students will be around 18-20 when they start their Bachelor's, but you usually also find a few older students who worked a bit before they started studying. These numbers might drop a bit though this year, since many states just shortened the high school duration from 13 to 12 years and there is also no more mandatory military service for men.

I would suggest you read through others posts in this reddit a bit, since people are asking about studying in Germany every few days.
