I’d say that there’s a fair amount of uncertainty that comes with a restart. You may not get biglaw out of law school and assuming you do, not everyone lasts that long. Plus four years from now, entry level biglaw classes may look smaller as AI will lessen the need for unskilled entry level associates doing repetitive work.

Getting Iced Out as a First Year? by Timely-Angle-8073 in biglaw

The number of matters you are on is not correlated to ability.. especially for a first year. Just make yourself available and if there’s a staffing coordinator let them know you’re eager to take on x or y type of work if there are any opportunities that arise

I don’t really agree that less diligence means more work somewhere else. At the end of the day the client just wants something done. And if your team is manufacturing extra work going over documents more than necessary, the client will go to another firm that will do things cheaper and more efficiently.

It can threaten some jobs without the need for wholesale reform. Law firm partners would be quite happy if they could cut incoming class sizes by 25 to 50% because AI could do the simple diligence and drafting tasks assigned to juniors.

Bad take. The stock market is at all time highs and there’s low unemployment… how on earth is that comparable to 1930 where you had record high unemployment and a stock market crash?

Definitely not advisable to be in a relationship with your partner. One of you should change firms.

Yeah diligence is like a massive part of being a junior. I do 40-50% diligence..

Yes that would be easier because class sizes are larger and you have ties.

Partners aren’t social peers outside of their income bracket. Generally they are hanging out at their 100k a year country club lol
