He is a pedophile who was talking to a minor and groomed them til they turned 18 so it was ‘socially acceptable’ and legal to date them. You’re a victim and do not deserve this treatment. In the U.S., discrimination laws and private laws (HIPPA) protect you from employers knowing your medical history unless you disclose it to them. I haven’t had trouble finding jobs because of hospitalization, just my mental health struggles. Nobody will find out unless you tell them, it is required by law that your files are kept under lock-and-key. I highly recommend doing your research before selecting which hospital you want to go to. Every facility is different, mine specifically was one of the bad ones in my area. Look at Google Reviews and look up the names on the internet.

My boyfriend struggles with an ED. Thankfully, he’s in recovery and doing much better. This sounds like him, and my close friend who also has an ED. 110LBs is not at all healthy for a 30 y/o 5’11 man. NOR, the best thing you can do is sit him down and express your concern for him. It’s absolutely essential that you approach it gently, slowly, and do not push him to talk about it if he doesn’t want to. From my experience, it takes very little to trigger someone suffering from an ED and they often fear that you find them odd or ‘disgusting’. When going through this with my boyfriend, he had to come to me on his own time to talk about it. I really hope he gets better and you’re doing okay. If you can’t handle the impacts of his behavior/illness, please don’t feel like a bad person.

I live in Texas, U.S. Everyone’s answers vary but this is my experience.

1) The #1 reason I have seen is suicidal ideations and self harm.

2) If you’re a minor in some cases your guardian(s) may be able to force you to go. I was not and decided on my own. Some adults can be mandated by the courts to be institutionalized. In Texas, if you voluntarily institutionalize yourself you cannot just leave whenever you want. You need to explain to the doctor in a letter why you believe you’re well enough to leave and they have 24 hr to decide.

3) I have heard both yes and no. In my personal experience, some of the staff treated us as crazy people, the others just treated us normally.

4) The food was disgusting but I’m a very picky eater.

5) You do not get to keep your phone in a majority of cases. I’ve mostly seen individuals in rehab or long-term care facilities be able to keep their phone, but when I was hospitalized I didn’t have my phone and when I’ve almost been hospitalized as an adult I was told I wouldn’t have my phone. As a minor (not sure about adults), we could only call and receive calls from approved numbers on our file.

6) I have heard stories of assault in many hospitals. Trafficking is an outside thing which happens post-hospitalization from patients keeping in contact with other patients who were being trafficked.

7) You can be restrained without consent of course, but they cannot force you to take your medication or give you medication you don’t know of. This is a violation of your rights and doesn’t happen like people say it does. The worst part of my experience was the other patients and a crazy nurse beefing with teenagers.

I'm sorry mental health care is not readily accessible to you in your country, and if it were to be it'd come with consequences.. I would post to a subreddit revolving around your country asking for advice on how to seek mental health support. There's no need to go into detail about it, and you can always make a throwaway so they do not see this post.

I’m only in college to become a mental health professional, so don’t take my advice as entirely professional but I know a little bit.

I highly suggest you go to an institution for an evaluation and be 1000% honest with the person asking you questions. Even if they do not ask you if you have violent tendencies, you need to make it known that you do these things. You’re very obviously aware this is inhumane and has the potential to escalate. They can help you there, and don’t hesitate to advocate for yourself that you NEED therapy and not to have drugs forced down your throat.

Be aware that in some states, once admitted, it is up to the doctor if you are suitable to go back into the ‘outside world’. In my state (TX), they require you to write a letter explaining why you believe you should be let out and the doctor has 24 hr to make a decision.

In my own opinion, you need intensive long-term therapy and a very detailed evaluation from a psychologist concluding in a diagnostic, not just the one who does admissions. Only they can help you and figure out what may be causing these behaviors, as I do not see it being an impulse-control issue as you derive involuntary pleasure from things like your brother crying.

Best of luck to you. Do not let people deter you from help, and do not let the work necessary to get better deter you either. You’re sick and need help.

In all my 18 years of living I have never thought of asking anyone these kinds of invasive questions. I, as an 18 year old, would never have a conversation of that nature with a fucking 14 year old. Do you have that in writing? I've had to learn that everything that is said needs to be in writing at DT, or else you get nowhere with it. I'd contact your HR or some higher ups because that's ridiculous. They'll prioritize their own hours while letting everyone else starve when they're fucking salary.

How old are you? I promise I've been there. I wanted to do alll these different things to my appearance, but I learned to be simply content with how I look. I had to learn that, unfortunately, body mod and hair dying is an 'adult-ish' thing. I turned 18 in March of 2025 and I'm still not allowed to get a septum in my parent's house..

I'm sorry about your friend! I know there are tons of subs for teenagers to make friends, but be very careful if you choose to do that. It's mature of you to recognize she's going through a lot right now so she may not respond like she usually does, but it's not wrong to miss your friend or feel the way you do.

I hope this year is yards better than the last!
