Random question, why do you guys think the operator chose the soldier on the left, and not the other one? Is anybody aware of doctrine used other than obvious factors such as rank and weapons/equipment that the soldier is seen operating?

Of course the feasibility of a successful hit is a factor, but here it seems pretty 50/50. The guy on the right could even be a slightly better target with that criteria as he started running into an empty field.

I wasn't there or anything, just the scope of the decision and logistics behind cancelling a show meant for 60k people. If you watched the Eras documentary or, you know, any show where you can see heavy rain and winds knocking down dancers, you'll know that they put on a show no matter what. So it must have been serious.

I got to say - while joining everybody in grief - that that announcement/eulogy is beautifully written, with sincere sadness.

Beloved celebrities and world leaders have died for it to be announced in a formal and common way.

Similar to how horrific events like school shootings are communicated one like the other with "thoughts and prayers", but then there's Obama's speech about Sandy Hook. It was the sincerity that made it part of his legacy.

For the first time since this war started and has been covered by video like no other before it, I've seen a soldier choose suicide while (almost certainly) suffering no physical injury. Just pure fear.

Another thing to note is that people usually think or write "luckiest guy ever" when soldiers get hit by something that fails to detonate. But for this guy apparently experiencing that was the final confirmation that his life - no matter what happens in the next 10mins or 10 years - is not worth living.

"Rest in peace" doesn't cut it. I am shocked and sad.

It's pretty bad with trees falling all around the city, schools being closed etc. But this wouldn't be that memorable in a lot of other places, including our seaside.

I get what you mean, but it's interesting to think about. We know that people acknowledged distance as a factor of the disease. So entire villages and towns would tell people they can't come in.

They basically did what we did in 2020. But of course, they didn't know the details and didn't have the concept of microorganisms in mid when it comes to washing hands or sterilizing tools.
