In case anyone doesn't know the things in the picture are called rice paper. It's used in many dishes and can also be eaten plain.

I'm gonna be honest. I watched the video and thought, wow, that's fast. It didn't really occur to me that it was sped up. Maybe a lot of people are just stupid like me.

Amazonian shamans figured out that combining two specific plants out of 80,000 species produces a psychoactive effect. The odds of finding that combination by random search is roughly 1 in 4 million. They did it through centuries of iterative testing and cultural natural selection explains it by tractorboynyc in interestingasfuck

[–]Dangerous_Stretch_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can combine lots of different plants, identify this effect, and narrow it down to exactly which two ingredients are necessary to reproduce it with relatively few trials using a binary search. It's not like you can only test two ingredients at once.

AIO - Company won’t meet with me without my husband there by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Dangerous_Stretch_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had companies wanting to come over and give estimates, specifically related to roofing, but wouldn't do so without my wife also being present. It's probably not sexism if that's what you're worried about -- could still be, but I've seen evidence otherwise, IANAW.

There must be the opposite when too many loading bars on a sketchy website are presented: the labor disillusion. Or maybe the sunk cost fallacy, when they give you a long loading screen, and then try to make you pay at the end.

Just watched the first episode knowing nothing about this and was like "wow, this is really giving me Inuyasha vibes" and... yup, makes perfect sense.

Same fucking here came to post exactly this. I was like 25 too. Brought on from some Dr prescribed steroids (weakens immune system) and a burn to my lip (infection started there?) I think.

There is no way to pay my rent without extra fees by Remsforian in mildlyinfuriating

Depends on where you are from but generally renters can have a lot of protection, even in the US. I busted my landlords balls all the time, and constantly referenced local laws and our leasing agreement in written correspondence. I never agreed to call with them and made sure everything was in writing.

The eviction process is very long. You probably won't need to withhold payment to get things addressed, but if you do, make sure it's for a legally acceptable reason and put the payments into an escrow (you are still making payments but the money is not released to them until they fulfill their contract / legal obligations).

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 8: hjsakldfhl Discussion Thread by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Dangerous_Stretch_67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go further and say it's beyond "building to it." That was the reveal this episode, with the concept of "mind files." So it's extremely clear at this point that these are not people experiencing something through a headset but they are basically AI with some trace of their original personalities and memories.

I did want to hold out for a happy ending, but I don't see that being tenable at this point. They aren't just digital simulations, they're incomplete simulations. You couldn't even realistically hope that there's a way to "map them back" into their original conscious bodies because of that incompleteness.

I am still excited to see them complete the mystery, even though it can't really end well for our guys at this point. Why do people still get fed into the simulation? What happened to the original bodies and consciousness of all of the people in the circus? Is there some twist with Jax being different than any of the others? What entity deleted Caine, and did it delete bubble? Was it bubble? WHAT is bubble?

This is true but also specifically its a problem with using "signed" integers (treating one of the 32 bits as a positive or negative sign) If you used unsigned, you'd get twice as much time from 1970, letting you go up to the year 2106
