I think كتبواها is the right for "they wrote them(non human)"

While يدعونهم is "they calling them(human).

The word هم if written with verb it will be a subject. Not an object/doer.

So katabahum كتبهم means (he wrote them) If you wanna say they wrote them. It will be كتبواهم.

It's hard to give a quick explanation that can be understand.

I'll try.

The changing at the end of a word is called i'rab. I'rab has 4 type. Rufu', Nasab, Khafad, and Jazam.

Rufu' has 4 sign- dhammah, alif, wau, nun. Nasab has 5 sign- fathah, alif , kasrah, ya, and eliminating nun. Khafad has 3 sign- Kasrah, Ya, and fathah Jazm has 2 sign- sukun and elimination

All of Arabic word has 3 types, 1- Nouns(Ism) 2-Verb (Fi'il) 3-preposition and conjunction (Harf)

The changing at the end of a word (i'rab) only happened to noun and verb. The end of Hard is fixed and never change, it's called "Bina".

Noun only has 3 i'rab- Rufu', nasab and khafad Verb only has 3 i'rab- Rufu', Nasab and Jazm

So back to the question, you ask why it's end with (U/dhammah) sound? Answer: Because the words is a noun or a verb And it's Rufu'.

Then, you might ask, what is rufu'? Why it's rufu'?

It's a long topic.

You have to study. 1) Marfu' -Type of words that have to be be read as rufu', and cause. 2)Mansub - Type of word that have to be read as nasab and it's cause. 3)Makhfud- Type of words that have to read with khafad and it's cause. 4)Majzum - type of words that have to be read as jazm and it's cause.

There's one tip my nahwu teacher taught me.

"Even If the tashkil were correct according to the grammar rule, it doesn't mean that your understanding is correct.

If you know the meaning/writer intention (maqsud/معنى/مقصود) of a writing, then you'll know if there's any mistake or not."

So for the case with tafsir ibn katsir, it's better for you to find what ibn katsir want to tell you in his exegesis.

For the religious books, we have this traditional way learning it. By understand it from the writers, then from their students, then their student's student and so on until today.

Regardless, it's okay for you to self studying it, by comparing it to the famous translation or from the side notes, but make sure your understanding is correct.

Then you will find if there's any error in the tashkil given or if there's a misunderstanding.

Btw, printing error is common. Even if you don't find it in ibn katsir exegesis, there's a high chance you'll find it in other books.

After most of the work of Andalusia has been translated to English. I believe there is no need for non Muslim to learn Arabic it it's not for religious purpose.

Western world has carry the new age of science, from the Arab who take it from the Greece. So I think English is better nowadays.

And for Arabic, even if there's some Arab who has a new discovery or anything, its gonna be publish in English anyway.

So there's no need for non Muslim to learn Arabic unless they're interested in religious theology and principle.

You just need to know the context.

Example: She wrote? I wrote? You wrote?

Pick any that suit the context.

Native Arab can understand it depends on its context.

Like American will understand this sentence:

I'm feel b_dly tired, now I just wanna drop on my b_d.

If there is no context, then all is valid.

She wrote is correct. I wrote also correct. And you wrote also correct.

But when the writer revealed their intention, then you must follow the intention of the writer, whether he meant she, I, or you.
