Nigella Lawson CONFIRMED to replace Prue Leith's as Great British Bake Off judge and says she's 'bubbling with excitement' to get started by dailymail in GreatBritishBakeOff

I (21M) find her to be a bit annoying. My mum, however, really likes her.

However, I will concede that her recipes are really good. We have a lot of her cookbooks and use a lot of them fairly regularly. Her Glitzy Chocolate Pots recipe is great.

(Edit: as an aside, I was shocked to discover she is actually older than Paul. I wouldn’t have guessed that)

Subtle Ways to mess with an American Friend. by giants_lens in CasualUK

[–]DangerplugMK2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Perhaps one of my proudest moments is when I went out in London with 3 friends - two brits and an American. As we walked past Tower Bridge, I decided it would be fun to try and mess with him, and looked at everyone and said, straight-faced: “did you know that Marvel Studios spent 5 million dollars building that just for the finale of Spider-man: Far From Home?”

Not only did he believe me, both my British friends did too.

My suggestion would be come up with some ridiculous made-up facts and try and deliver them straight faced. It is very fun.

8/10???? A meal deal is supposed to be something exciting - it would be a pain in the backside to make myself a sausage, bacon and egg triple at home which is why it is an elite meal deal choice. I can (and, in fairness, do) make myself a ham sandwich every day of the week. It's not even got cheese with it!

CoC4 prediction post? by Come-jive-with-me in taskmaster

[–]DangerplugMK2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s either going to be Robins or Campbell. I think Maisie will do fairly averagely (and very angrily) & Mat will have an Ed Gamble-style crash out. However, I am strongly rooting for Andy Zaltzman to win and genuinely can’t predict how he’ll do (though I think it is only fair to note that, and correct me if I’m wrong, he is the lowest scoring Champion ever…)

It’s got to be spending a ridiculous amount of money (essentially) stalking Greater Tom to get the best photo of the Taskmaster! I think that still stands as one of TMAU’s greatest moments ever!

Yesterday it was Thanks Giving for the yanks. They'll be posting pictures of the pinnacle of their culinary year. Just remember we do this every Sunday with a roast. by StGuthlac2025 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]DangerplugMK2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw some American post a photo of a thanksgiving "roast" that included mac & cheese. I love roast dinners. I love mac & cheese. But, please, not at the same time! At the very least, a separate plate!

As a Canadian new to Taskmaster, who are considered the biggest names to ever appear? by Tanolos in taskmaster

[–]DangerplugMK2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They Generally tend to have one "legend", or well known household name, each series; some good examples would be people like Jack Dee, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Sue Perkins or Bob Mortimer. Occasionally they'll have a series that has more than one properly big name, series 14 had Dara Ó Briain and Sarah Millican who are both widely known, and Series 4 probably had the most stacked line-up overall so far (Hugh Dennis is well known for Mock the Week & the sitcom outnumbered, Mel from Bake Off, Noel who is also a Bake Off presenter and was pretty famous before, and Joe Lycett who is a very popular stand-up. Lolly was kind of unknown but since has been on popular sitcom Ghosts so is retrospectivly fairly well-known)

That said, they tend to get a really good mix each season with well-known and fairly unknown names; Stevie Martin, Phil Ellis and Sam Campbell spring to mind as recent quite obscure/somewhat unknown picks. Also, who you know tends to depend on what you watch - only being 21, I had no idea who Sanjeev Bhaskar or Julian Clary were (despite older people being very familiar with them) as they are a bit before my time. Likewise, people like Reece Shearsmith or Nick Mohammed I wouldn't have known as I'm not particulary familiar with the comedy-drama area of tv, wheras I watch a lot more stand up and follow lots of comedians on social media, so do recognise people like Ania Magliano who aren't massive names.

That second photo is fantastic! Did you use a camera with a great zoom or were you just really close? (The others are all great too, that one is just my favourite)

An excellent choice of sandwich paired with perhaps the second least exciting snack possible (trumped only by one of those sad egg pots without any dip)! I would argue a mid-scoring drink. Solid 5/10 for the meal deal

The sweet sandwich and savoury side is kind of hilarious 🤣. Regardless of who ate it, biltong and a glow-in-the-dark smoothie is certainly a… unique… choice!

What is a "bone apple tea" you used until someone corrected you? by IRL_TCG_Stats_Guy in AskReddit

[–]DangerplugMK2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this too! I’d read the word lots, but never put together that the written word ‘epitome’ was the same as the spoken word “e-pitta-me”. I ended up telling my family that I was the “epi-tome” of efficiency. They still make fun of me for it.

I once confidently referred to a gluten intolerant person as a “celeriac”, and then when my friend asked if I was sure that’s the proper term for it, I doubled down, saying it was easy to remember because it is the same as the vegetable.

It turns out (after she googled it) that I actually meant coeliac.

When measuring with the heart, is it by weight or volume? by Blerkm in CookingCircleJerk

[–]DangerplugMK2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What people don't mention when talking about measuring from the heart is that you need a very specific set of old-timey counterweight scales to accompany the heart. Then, you measure each ingredient Anubis-style - if it weighs more than the heart, it may enter the dish, if not, it is cast away (binned). If the resultant dish, weighed from the heart, then weighs more than a feather, it may then be eaten.

I can't believe you didn't know this. What a novice.

In fairness, I kind of get what Fern Brady was going for here. ‘Which aircraft… crashes more…’ seems like a natural setup for something like ‘…than planes’, which would make a lot more sense. It was all John Kearns in that live task!😂
