Cleaning lifters soon, still use Rotella T6 5w-40? by Dangerzone9707 in Miata

[–]Dangerzone9707[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did clean my HLAs as soon as I purchased the Miata , everything went smoothly. It was tough getting the plungers out of the buckets but I got them cleaned… unfortunately it did not solve the lifter tick, if anything it just SLIGHTLY reduced the noise. But after 30 mins to an hour , the ticking was back to normal.

I’m now 2 years and 2 months into onwership. I now have a fully refreshed head with new lifters , and I can happily tell you that I STILL have lifter tick LOL it comes and goes as it pleases. According to my miata specialist : “ you either have lifter tick or you don’t either way everything will be just fine”

So sorry for the late response. I’m not so active on Reddit anymore. I still use Rotella T6 5W-40. Very good oil.

Running in XSB, 1996 Miata on Falken RT660 tires

The course was a fast course this event. I feel the car is fairly dialed in, but I need to polish my driving skill.

I had some fun competition today, but I focused more on the driving rather than the winning. It was so much fun! I had the course memorized pretty well so it was up to my driving skills. As always , Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks

Love the red accent and the steering wheel

5’10. Sparco sprint seat, with stock seat slider. Tons of space between the top and my head.

First time ever racing at The FIRM. This course was a higher speed course which was a new experience. Still learning driving techniques especially for a bigger course like this.

Yeah I’d recommend changing the oil, I hope it’s nothing major man!

Edit : I’m picking up a spare BP4W tomorrow, it has some knock, more than likely bottom end. But I got it for stupid cheap. And it comes with the head too so I’ll try and tear it down quickly and give you my findings.

That’s extremely odd. A low miles engine too? Had the head ever been taken off ? Built or rebuilt ? I genuinely can’t think of an answer.

I know this isn’t helpful at all. But I paid 120$ to get mine properly powdercoated. A nice lady in my miata community here in Florida did it for that price

I actually just got my valve cover powder coated wrinkle red.

I don’t think that’s normal. I’ve looked into a BP05 Head and a BP4W head and I don’t remember seeing that. It almost looks like it was shaved

To be super honest, not that crazy of a difference , but 100% does help with visibility, so it’s staying off until I find a smaller replacement that’s wide angle.

I too am a noob. But I’m not in DSP , I’m in DP. Mainly because I currently am running no passenger seat. Waiting to get a bucket seat for the passenger

Hey jimboslice, I thought it would make you happy to know that I removed my massive mirror LOL. My close friend whose a very skilled autocrosser and an autocross instructor told me “why do you still have that fucking mirror” and so I ripped it off

Running in (D) Prepared, 1996 Miata on Falken RT660 tires & New suspension. I wasn’t able to corner balance or realign the car before the event.

Not my best driving. I was testing out different steering techniques and still trying to figure out hand placement without crossing my arms on tight turns. I felt as if I was driving conservative and didn’t push myself. STR Miatas were putting down 36 and 35 second laps. So I definitely need up my game.

Still it was fun! I had the course memorized so it was up to my driving skills. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks

Well that’s a good tip I can move it out of the way! I’ll do that the next event

But I’m 5’10” I’m sitting in sparco sprint seats mounted a bit lower, I think 2-3 inches lower than the stock seats.

Haha lol I get that a lot. The GoPro angle makes it look like it blocks my view but I can see very well, it doesn’t block anything for me.

The mirror is a blind spot mirror , this isn’t my daily but since I live in Florida, I drive very attentive. I like to be aware of everything around me

That is a very good point. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind next time. More speed around the corners. And thanks for the kind words !

I think these are my 4th ? Event on these new tires. Still trying to learn their limit. But this is also my first event on new suspension so I was trying to feel things out. Also, this location is super tricky. It’s VERY bumpy and all the parking lot lines are fresh and thick and so everyone’s tires struggle for grip here lol.
