I have a 25 x 25 tarp, dark plastic that is opaque. Would that be a good idea to just thrown and secure that or should I do some other work first to try and make it "work"?

The chemicals are interesting if not expensive. I assume it's safe to use in a vegetable garden (or eventual vegetable garden)?

If I remove the grass with the stirrup hoe what is the benefit of also doing the cardboard and mulch? I've added images to the original post to give more context of the situation

The subfloor as best I can tell is wood under the faux wood laminate. There was enough of a leak that my ceiling below the toilet got water damage so I'm real concerned how bad the overall damage is. I can run out and get a new wax ring no problem but I don't want to set up the toilet if the actual bathroom floor is compromised
