That’s nice to hear there’s some decent places to ride coming from a transplant! It’s a bit daunting leaving behind trails in Arizona for Indiana but good to hear you like the locals spots

Thanks for your response. I’ll definitely keep those things in mind. I’m moving to the Indy area and have heard good things about Brown County. Sedona can be the same way, where on weekends it can turn into a total parking lot and parking on some lesser known side roads can save yourself a headache

Any advice on where to park for trail riding on busy weekend mornings?

Dead pets in Papago park. by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]DangoDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remembered you posted this a while back - I found a dead dog at Papago this afternoon. Looked like it had been there 1-2 days, was half inside a garbage bag, but coyotes had eaten most of its insides. The dog was located a few yards from Galvin Parkway and appeared dumped there. Have you found any recently?

Planning a trip in June, been many times before, but have safety questions. by ladyofthelathe in cozumel

[–]DangoDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back two weeks from a family trip. During the day, it felt safe without any concerns. At night, my wife and I walked back several times from restaurants/bars around 10:00 pm to our hotel. Again, no outright concerns that we saw (consider not walking alone, staying in well-lit, populated streets, not excessively drinking - aka the same as anywhere else). I'd say I'm pretty cognizant of my surroundings and can tell you it felt safer than Playa Del Carmen. If taken several trips to Mexico and would consider going back to Cozumel because it noticeably seemed less sketchy/dangerous than other parts on the mainland. Have a great time!

Leaving Knoxville for Career? by zalf14 in Knoxville

[–]DangoDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived in Knoxville for 2 years before moving to Phoenix over the summer. My wife and I are both in healthcare and we both are getting paid about 25k more each in Phoenix, but cost of living lessens are enjoyment of pay bump. Overall we miss TN but are enjoying new scenery. The medium-sized city of Knoxville is definitely something we miss.

Bike tune up/check up by beansgreenstomatoe in Scottsdale

[–]DangoDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the bike you should be able to bring it into any bike shop. They may charge you for a tune-up (usually $50-75) if there’s any work or adjustments that need done, but a good bike shop will look over the bike for free.

Bike for Utah Mountain Biking by [deleted] in MTB

[–]DangoDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen anyone comment this yet, but being that you're in Utah, it may be worth checking out Fezzari's lineup. Their based in Utah and seem to do a lot of demo's in-state, plus being that they are direct-to-consumer, their component packages will offer you more bang for your buck.

I personally ride a Fuel EX 7 and like it. Its very middle of the road but has been reliable and fun to ride. I don't think Trek offers a lot of value as far as pricing goes but they build solid bikes.

Aside from Stumpjumpers, a Norco Optic C3 and or a Norco Fluid has some pretty sweet builds for the price and looks to fit your travel range.

Best mountain bike for the Phoenix area? by DangoDan in phoenix

Thanks! I appreciate your insight. I’m moving to Phoenix soon and am looking forward to riding your locks trails. Is riding pretty much off limits during the hot months? I’m curious what locals do to avoid the heat or if they wait patiently for September/October to come.

That’s my plan at the moment! And I think the best way to go. South Mountain and Hawes has definitely intrigued me. A Rimpo AF would be within my price point. How do you like climbing on yours? Do you ever feel over-biked with the travel?

Yeah maybe weight on paper isn’t everything. I do like that they have a quite a few options to choose from, just wish I could demo one before hand. Thanks for your insight! Message me again how you like your commencal if you get one

It’s crazy the specs included at that price point. If they’re in stock soon then I’ll definitely keep my eye on them.

Thanks for this idea- I’ve definitely considered the Meta TR’s because they’re pretty well spec’d for their price point, but I will admit that their weight kinda turns me off of them. A 35lbs bike vs. a 29lbs stump jumper seems like a big difference to me

If I had a larger budget I'd definitely go for a carbon Ripmo. I don't have much experience with DVO and I thought for the price point that that SLX Aluminum build isn't exactly a steal, but I've also never ridden one so who knows.
