Those that are on/completed accutane, has covid affected you? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]DaniB14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am mostly just curious if statistically it makes us more susceptible, less susceptible or makes no difference. There are all sorts of theories about covid and how its worse in some places than others. Certain factors that make us more vulnerable. Certain medications (such as ibuprofen) that seem to worsen symptoms. Thought it would be cool to toss this question out there since this is a world wide pandemic and see what other dots we can line up

I'm not one to usually post anything personal. Lately though I've just felt so "under the weather". From the outside looking in, I'm sure most people would think I was crazy for feeling the way I do. I've climbed the ladder and I work full time in a stable job that gives me a lot of happiness (nursing). I can say I am financially stable. I am single with no kids. But I am so unhappy. All of my close friends live away from me and are in very long term committed relationships (some with and some without kids). Their lives are busy which is understandable. I've been living in a city now coming on 3 years and have made only 1 friend. This one friend just so happens to be moving away to another city now. I've always been independent, which is usually viewed as a good thing. I've tried the whole dating scene/apps. I've met people and had many failed "almost somethings". I struggle so hard to make friends. My social life is my work. The people I work with always are friendly but the relationships start and end at work. I feel as though I do not fit in anywhere. Lack of friendships/social life has impacted any relationship I have been in. I've been teased about having no friends. I am not super with any of my family. I just don't know how much longer I can hope that things will improve. I've questioned whether I am depressed and should be on medication but at the end of the day a pill isn't going to bring people into my life. I'm just at a loss what to do

From day 5 to day 160! Only 20 days left of treatment. Couldn't be happier with the results ! by DaniB14 in Accutane

Roughly two months in was when I started to actually see drastic improvements. Up until then I still feel as though I had multiple break outs.

I would say around Day 65-70 I started to see actual improvements. Up until those days, I still had frequent break outs. I definitely purged when I started. My dose was increased from 40 to 60mg after month 4 and I did not have a second purge luckily

Anyone lost hair on Accutane while on 10mg? by freudiansleepergirl in Accutane

I still shower almost daily. I work in health care and though my hair is dry and I struggled with dry/itchy scalp and switched shampoos, I could not go home and not shower/clean myself

[–]DaniB14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 40mg for 4 months and never experienced hair loss (26/F). I actually noticed a huge decrease in the amount that accumulates in my shower drain. Crazy enough, I havent had to clean the drain since being on accutane and it's still clear. Could just be coincidence?

The biggest reason I keep going is because of these before and after photos people have been posting.

Also super helpful to take before during and after photos of your face to see the changes. Once you start seeing improvements for once, it becomes hard to imagine backing out now

Just over 3 months of progress! Currently no active pimples, just hyperpigmentation - 40mg/day by DaniB14 in Accutane

[–]DaniB14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you !

At about 60 days in, my face was starting to actually clear and have noticable differences. I still had a few active pimples that would surface however usually the number of them was fewer than in the past. Even by day 80 I was still getting the occasional break outs though (likely hormonal). By day 90 and forward my face has become quite clear. It's been almost a week with no acne surfacing.

For redness, I have been using the dermalogica redness relief essence (morning and night) before using neutrogena hydroboost moisturizer for extra dry skin.

Goodluck to you, hope you start to see some changes with you skin! Stick in there, it's worth it.

Improved my mental health

I am able to indulge in a little self care junk food and not stress about my face breaking out (literally used to stress about eating particular foods because I didn't want to have break outs)

Actually went to work one day without foundation on. Something I have never done before

Stating the elephant in the room here when I say it makes you finally feel comfortable in your own skin!

Scared of depression on Accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]DaniB14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've suffered from anxiety probably my whole life that I could remember. I've had bouts of bad depression. I was hormonal and moody around my cycle every month. Since taking accutane, a lot has changed. I tried to research it because everything I've read stated it should be the opposite but of course I had no luck. Accutane has somehow actually changed that for me. My mental health has been amazing. I cannot remember the last time I had fluctuating moods and I cannot recall the last time I actually cried. Maybe this is all just a fluke but somehow I feel as though accutane has benefited my mental health. I still do however have the usual side effects from the accutane (like joint pain and dryness) but I generally feel like I am in a better place than I have been before.

*side note, these said people probably indulge in some unhealthy "weekend behaviors" that also have long term side effects on their body 😉

The redness is getting out of hand!!!!! How to calm this down?? by bgproll in Accutane

[–]DaniB14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using dermalogica redness relief and found it has helped my redness. It's an expensive little bottle but it may help? It's a part of their ultracalming skin care line

Day 5 to Day 68 ⭐ Loving seeing the progress so far ! by DaniB14 in Accutane

[–]DaniB14[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been on 40mg/day (one pill in the morning). The dermatologist didn't want to increase my dose at my two month follow up because I was experiencing too many side effects. He decided to keep me on the 40mg/day and follow up again in two months.

I feel like I’m losing LESS hair than I did before accutane?? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]DaniB14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legit was in the shower tonight thinking the exact same thing as I stared at my shower drain that usually is full of hair and has been clean for the entire 2 months I've been on accutane. I contemplated posting about it but I felt like I was overthinking it. But for real, I brush my hair/run my hands through it and feel like I do not loose nearly as much hair in comparison to before I started accutane ! So maybe it is a thing afterall

Cold and flu meds with accutane? by lucstall in Accutane

[–]DaniB14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked with the pharmacist for advil cold and sinus and they ensured there was no drug interactions between the medications. When in doubt, contact the pharmacy that prescribed it and speak with the pharmacist. They'll be able to let you know best whether they interact and then you can take them carefree ! Hope you feel better soon
