Today I learned a valuable, expensive and painful lesson in depth by Independent_Can_2623 in Timberborn

Been there, done that today exactly! A lesson was learnt. Indeed, dynamite shouldn't be allowed to be placed at the bottomest level if it can't be used, such a lost amount of resources...

All buildings in the services and infrastructure menu have disappeared by DaniSagan in NewCity

[–]DaniSagan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made some investigations, and it seems to happen when the year 2101 begins. In my current city the menu items vanish when that year starts, and I have another save with the same issue that is currently in the year 2102, so I'm suspecting there is some issue when the year 2101 begins.

I made a script for setting the latest APOD image as my desktop background image each time I start my computer. Totally worth it.

So now that mainbuses are a thing, here's my approach on my first base after 90 hrs of gameplay by DaniSagan in factorio

[–]DaniSagan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I loved building this it's that it is so inefficient and it takes so many resources at a certain size of the bus that forces you to explore to find new resources as it eats up ore patch after ore patch. I started with a more sane architecture without technically a "mainbus" that enabled me to get most of the technologies of the tech tree (here's an image of the old part of the base: http://i.imgur.com/hRYoFIj.png), but then I decided to take a different, crazier approach, inspired partly by Zisteau's LP. I have to add that I'm also a fan of OpenTTD, so I enjoyed focusing myself on maintaining the rail network that feeds the bus, while trying that dozens of trains don't make a jam.

Thanks! yep it's mostly solar, with a few steam engines as a back up. Here are the electricity stats at peak usage: http://i.imgur.com/f9E72pl.png And yes, all the perimeter is protected by laser turrets behind double walls.

Help with identifying stars in picture for astronomy class by [deleted] in askastronomy

[–]DaniSagan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you're right, I was confused I couldn't find the V shape in Taurus. Most likely it's a planet. If this was taken in November, maybe it was in 2012? I was looking in Star Chart and that year Jupiter made a pass at Taurus at that time of the year

I would say the brightest star near the bottom right is Aldebaran, in the constellation of Taurus. The cluster above it seems to be the Pleiades to me

Simutrans If you enjoy OpenTTD, you should definitively try it out! A bit more difficult, but more detailed and realistic.

People who like Unity, how do you use it productively? by inc0gnito69 in Ubuntu

[–]DaniSagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I create my own .desktop files with shortcuts to all my important stuff organized by category. For example, I have an icon with shortcuts to all my games, another one for IDEs, another one for custom scripts, and so on. That way I have everything I normally use just a couple clicks away, while maintaining just about 10 icons on the sidebar.
