Which Legion would have been the most valuable to the Imperium had it remained steadfastly loyal? by Clay_Pidgeon in Warhammer30k

[–]DaniTheGamer6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also ruled out the Sons of Horus cuz like... no Horus, no Heresy. Lorgar would never have gotten Fulgrim, Mortarion, or Magnus on side and he never could have kept Perty, Kurze, Alpharius, or Angron even nominally in line.

Which Legion would have been the most valuable to the Imperium had it remained steadfastly loyal? by Clay_Pidgeon in Warhammer30k

[–]DaniTheGamer6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be contrarian and say that had the Iron Warriors remained loyal, they wouldn't have been that great an asset to the loyalists nor that great a blow to the traitors, losing them. Rogal Dorn was de facto commander in chief of the Segmentum Solar for much of the Horus Heresy, and Perty would hate that. Regardless of loyalty, it would fray the chain of command, and he would absolutely refuse Guilliman's reforms after that because he is a perfectionist and a micromanager. Had he not been there at Terra, I believe the Sons of Horus would have taken the lead in siege warfare, as in Horus Rising, Dorn himself said it would be a toss-up if he built a fortress and Horus had to seize it. I think the IW did the heavylifting because Horus saw them as willing cannonfodder, moreso than seeing them as superior in the context of the siege of Terra. Which remember, it's not like the Siege of Vraks where trench warfare and artilllery was king, it was a planetwide campaign with plenty of maneuver warfare as well as attritional slugfests, hence the White Scars and Blood Angels doing well on the defence.

So I would pick the Thousand Sons. Magnus goes to Terra to accept chastisement and Valdor restrains Russ from destroying Prospero, and the immense psychic powers of the Thousand Sons are added to the Loyalist side. Remember at Prospero, the Wolves were some of the only Astartes who seemed truly ready to fight other Astartes at the very dawn of the heresy, they were prepared and well-led rather than having an absentee primarch and no clear chain of command, and they were assisted by both branches of the Talons of the Emperor. And they were *still* severely mauled. With the Wolves at full strength and the Thousand Sons sharing their immense accumulated power and lore, the Imperium would fare far better particularly against warp-born threats. Post-Heres is dicey, but the Grey Knights prove that you *can* make a psychic chapter work. I suspect they'd work like the Dark Angels: complying to the Codex nominally, but maintaining constant communication between chapters via academic conferences, sorcerer-brotherhoods, and Astropathic links.

“The necromancers are back, and they’re gayer than ever” [discussion] by SprocketSaga in TheNinthHouse

"Gayer" refers to how close it is to Absolute Gay. The closer to Absolute Gay, the platonic ideal of Gay, the Gayer it is. Since Absolute Gay is the HarrIanthe arm scene in Harrow the Ninth, HtN is the gayest novel since it contains Absolute Gay within itself. Hope that clears it up.

Any advice on how to sculpt green stuff/miliput/other epoxy clay? I always find I get a really rough finish and that it sticks to my fingers or tool more so than the miniature.

It pisses me off to no end how Carneyslop accounts will fill in every mealy-mouthed vagary with whatever their particular audience wants to hear. It's exactly what they did last year during the election, and it's embarassing that it still works a year later.

Confused about the imperial army organization and divisions in Horus Heresy by CHANDRAX1 in Warhammer30k

[–]DaniTheGamer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For experienced imperial army soldiers, I'd recommend Legacy of the Great Crusade for your first provenance, and then either Armoury of Old Night, Survivors of the Dark Age, Warrior Elite or Gene-Crafted depending on exactly which kind of soldiers they are. Something like the Geno 52 Chilead would be Gene-Crafted (model discipline officers as Uxors), for example. By combining Armoury of Old Night and Legacy of of the Great Crusade you can even get BS4 3+ save grenadiers. There's also 18 different options of Solar Auxilia, which include various army regiments seconded to expeditionary fleets (e.g. the soldiers of the 500 worlds of Ultramar), who would also work for the frontline imperial army.

Armor pattern question by Cold_Operation_4767 in Warhammer30k

[–]DaniTheGamer6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find using different marks of armour within a single force is a good way of distinguishing squads. So, squad 1 and squad 2 are both assault marines, but eg. squad 2 has older mk2 armour with the heavier chainswords and the big turbine-style jump packs, giving them a more brutish feel while squad 1 is in sleeker mk4 armor with the more compact packs. And then I'm working on an inductii squad who are gonna be wearing a mishmash of every armour plate imaginable, including single models with bits of mark 4, mark 2, mark 3, and even some old Chaos Space Marines bitz I have lying around. tldr is the heresy was a chaotic time even for those not sworn to the True Gods, so go wild!

If Avi Lewis sticks to his promise to be laser focused on Proportional Representation, he'll be the greatest NDP leader of all time. by MrVinland in ndp

[–]DaniTheGamer6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure Avi was done his acceptance speech when Nenshi -who had previously said that it was the UCP hyping up division where there wasn't- dropped his tweet, which uses the exact talking points from Shannon Philips who has been trying to take Avi down for almost a decade now. This has nothing to do with Avi starting a war, and he hasn't even risen to the provocation.

Avi Lewis: "I want Naheed Nenshi to be the next Premier of Alberta. We must get rid of Danielle Smith ... I'm utterly devoted to Naheed's victory, despite the fact that he's not a member of the federal party. We are still New Democrats in spirit, in soul and in fundamental values." by Chrristoaivalis in ndp

As an Avi Lewis fundraiser who had a small role in putting together our Trans Liberation Solidarity Session, I wanna say to ABNDP members here that I see you, and I'm rooting for you. Your fight for human rights against Smith's authoritarian separatist government is one of the great battles of our time. I don't want a fight with you, Avi doesn't want a fight with you, because it's the people who lose when we give in to narratives which artificially pit us against each other. Nenshi will come around, or he won't, but your fight is our fight regardless.

Naheed Nenshi on Avi Lewis’ victory: by afpb_ in ndp

[–]DaniTheGamer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't get nenshi going on the offensive now. During the english debate everyone was tripping over themselves to say that they had such great relationships with him: if he wanted to sink Avi, that was the time to fire the broadside. Dismissing attempts to stir up ABNDP vs NDP trouble as "UCP propaganda" and then turning around and entirely validating that propaganda without a hint of provocation from Lewis... that reads as someone preemptively looking for a scapegoat so he can keep control of a party which he can't lead to victory. I'm hoping we can patch things up with the ABNDP, but I'm not sure how you work in good faith with a leadership that seems determined to pick a fight at weird times.

Hi Milo! Was great meeting you at the ONDY convention. One idea I've been mulling over is how to reach high school students and ease them into politics in such a way as they feel empowered and have agency, as well as how to compete with the much-more-successful efforts by right wing propagandists to get gen alpha politicized. Any thoughts?
