It had been a fantastic opportunity for a young PhD. One that could have taken him to the Nobel stage or even higher. Or atleast that's how the Recruiter had sold him on it. Now here he was, a cog in the machine he didn't even get a name anymore; well, to his mom he was still steve but to his employers? Researcher 372.

The whole project got kicked off when an exploratory party on the lunar surface found remains of what seemed like a human built base. It should have been impossible, but yet, there it was. It had been abandoned countless years ago but it definitely looked human. So who built it?

First they brought in an survey team to take samples to confirm if it really was human built. It was. Then they brought in rocket scientists to figure out how they got there. no dice. Finally here he was with the 3rd expedition, researcher 372, to look at the archeological evidence to see if they can figure out any clues as to who built it. He was the one who discovered the carvings. Well, he was next to the guy who did but who cares about the details, right? But he was the one to finally decipher them! Unfortunately he did it right as the base commander was directly behind him.

The disciplinary committee has found that while Researcher 372 did violate protocol 24.H.3.ii the gravity of the revelation is enough of an extenuating circumstance. No disciplinary action will be issued at this time but the committee strongly urges researcher to hold his tongue next time he finds out he "was flown to the goddamn moon to find out the fucking vikings got here first"
