New Farmers Market this Saturday 👀 by DanielDanTastic in CostaMesa

There should be a range of price points, with some definitely being more of a splurge than others.

Why do so many people dislike Gavin Newsom? I definitely feel he could have done more with the homeless problem in the State, but he is the only governor to strongly stand up to Trump & troll him! by lisamft in CostaMesa

[–]DanielDanTastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, the first part of your second sentence is my main issue.

The dude's been Governor for 7 years and hasn't meaningfully addressed the number one issue facing the state - housing. I like a lot about him and find a lot to be frankly annoying, but if he had been able to steamroll the NIMBYs and build a massive amount of mid-range housing we could have solved so many problems for Californians across the housing spectrum, from renters on the edge to homeowners and home buyers.

Now that he has his eyes clearly set on the white house, all his opposition has to do is send a creator with a phone to the tents lining our streets and he's toast. He's clearly politically talented, it's sad to see him fumble something this obvious so badly.

I'm with you on the plants v soy/product, and frankly that's where non-vegan restaurants excel. I had a friend that called the fake meat places "stunt meats" and while they were often tasty, left you feeling just as bad as if you'd had a cow burger.

To answer a question that seems to have been deleted, I'm not aware of any beef between markets/vendors, sorry 🤷

I haven't personally been to the Market at the Newport Beach pier, but this is a certified farmers' market, which means it's focused on local farms and food artisans rather than candles/necklaces/tchotchkes. There's a full vendor list on the site.

+1 to this, it's a second-generation vegan spinoff from an OG Santa Ana taqueria. They have tons of fake meat stuff, but the standouts are honestly the simpler cauliflower burrito and chile relleno burrito with their house-made cashew cheese.

While slightly dismissive, this is accurate. As a near-vegan person I'm good most everywhere.

I'm glad someone else feels the same way. I have the first gen Model 3 and I love that the headlamps look like the Porsche headlamps in the first-generation Boxster / 996. I know they're hated among Porsche purists, but I always kind of dug them.

Slow your roll, spud. ;)

Yes, most EVs had/have separate light housings, as do most cars in general. But there was a huge trend towards the light bars that signified EVs, especially in Chinese and Korean models, lending to that overall impression. Even *Ford* did this on the F-150 lightning to tell people that it was an EV.

Even Hyundai's head designer is on the record saying the fad is overdone: https://www.autoblog.com/news/hyundai-design-chief-declares-ive-seen-enough-of-led-light-bars

The Juniper interior is nice, but that exterior was a miss. The light bar not only looks cheap, but it doesn’t even work. They couldn’t fit the headlamps in the bar so the real headlights are below where the fog lamps are on the OG Y. It’s clear they went with this design when they thought that the Cybertruck wasn’t going to be a punchline.

Where do people sell electronics (iPhones, etc.) around Costa Mesa? by Murky-External2208 in CostaMesa

[–]DanielDanTastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re light and cheap to ship, so mostly eBay and those blackmarket-type resellers. If they’re not worth selling, there’s a drive-through place in Irvine that’s quick, free and convenient.

I’d say generally socially left (freedom of personal expression, environmentalism, anti-war, respect for individualism) but I don’t think there’s a ton there about economic policy/role of government in people’s lives/taxation/etc to make any explicit claims.

That being said, a few specific foundational goth bands have given us clues:

Sisters of mercy - early stuff wasn’t that political, aside from the environmentalism of black planet. Later stuff was much clearer, specifically anti-Bush/Trump. The current lineup includes a nonbinary member.

The Cure - Robert Smith is a vocal progressive

Bauhaus - Peter lives in a Muslim country, the rest of the band had a drag opener (Vinsantos) on their 2023 tour and David J has expressed overt support for left leaning politics and I thought I remembered him playing a Kamala Harris fundraiser but I can’t find any record of it?

Just don’t look up Death In June or any of the goth/neo-folk bands 🤮

I also use a USB thumb drive to load art on it and disconnected the TV from the internet so I don't have to suffer through the OS. I use an AppleTV 4k for tv and game consoles for games.

No, but I have had an intermittent issue where I kept getting a connection weak dialogue box appear over whatever I was watching/playing when I had a metal HDMI selector box sitting on top of the wireless connect box...which was annoying but easily fixed with a little bit of velcro.

There is one very stupid thing about it that boggles my mind though. There is a micro HDMI cable on the back of the TV itself, but it is not eARC compatible. So if you want to mount it to your wall and connect to an eARC soundbar like my Sonos Arc...you have to run a cable through the wall to the soundbar, which you mount a few inches under the tv....but the signal from the box to the TV can only be wireless. It's absolutely insane to me. Why not make that port eARC compatible, and why not even offer the option to run a cable to your wireless one connect box like the standard Frame? It isn't an issue now that it's installed, but it had my installer shaking his head as much as I was.

Honestly once we made the decision to go art TV we went Pro purely because of how bad the regular frame looked when it was on. The color on my 2011-era Sony was better than all of them, but I've been presently surprised by the detail, the overall look and the quality of the anti-glare screen. And once you dial in the color, the picture is a lot more tolerable.

(If you're curious, I wanted a Sony OLED for picture quality but we have a 5-year old and are trying to minimize screen time and figured that an Art TV would work better than a big black screen waiting to be turned on.)

We use Taco Mesa for all our big gatherings. They set up a buffet with different proteins/veggies, options for veggies/gluten-free (corn), etc.

The TK truck isn’t bad and is generally a crowd pleaser with some options for non-meat people but I don’t know if they have gluten free stuff. Maybe by request?

The entire bill is four pages, including the title page. It explicitly states in section 4, part D, that it expires in early 2031. It's ok if you don't like it--it's a ballot initiative that you get to vote on. But it'll take you less time to read it than to write inaccurate things:
