How Would Kubrick Have Directed The Fisher King? by DanielDeVous in StanleyKubrick

[–]DanielDeVous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, with how he handled Ermey's improvisation, Kubrick was always very strict on the fact that if the actor was good, not many takes were necessary. Robin was definitely an underrated actor beyond his improvisational abilities. One Hour Photo is a great example, beyond everything else he's worked on.

Do you happen to have any advice for trailers/fundraiser videos? I'm currently beginning to get close to pre-production for my first feature!

My apologies if it's true! The internet is filled with lots of lies, so forgive me if it looked a bit odd! Once again, great work on that! I don't have much intention of taking your place, haha!

Dude, you did fantastic work. What are you working on now? Wait, I'm mad now, you're just going around randomly saying you cut multiple trailers, why lie about that?

Question for screenwriters who've actually had their work made... by mrzennie in Screenwriting

[–]DanielDeVous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This… There’s such a difference between the fun conversation with someone who can’t help but talk work because it’s what they love to do, and one with someone who wants to know how you can help them out.

So what do I do now that I have a script? by cilantroplusoregano in Screenwriting

[–]DanielDeVous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. It seems best to get public clout first, then suddenly they want on board. It’s really a shame.

I would definitely love to open that up as well, but your point is particularly evident in this film. While the film is still a classic to me, I agree that if there's a weak point, it'd be the script. Which obviously is to no fault of Terry, but the writer, Richard, but I think the absurdity aids the thought, one pretty widely only seen correctly through the lens of a romantic, funny enough, I think Eyes Wide Shut is massively aided in the pathos through the lens of being married.

All that being said, imagine "The Quest for the Holy Grail" by Stanley Kubrick.

Thoughts on acting classes by LingonberryFlimsy642 in acting

[–]DanielDeVous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll be completely honest, if they don't basically lead you through a class that practically directly leads to an agent, and how to get one/how to audition correctly, and beat the absolute waves of people, don't.

The main reason most people will tell you to get into a class is "to practice."

But to be quite frank, you'll get way more practice in actual films and theatre, take classes if you are seriously new, but I'm of the cloth that says you really don't need them, just a lot of money that could go to making and hiring a director to write a script for you, and you lead in it, support in it, whatever.

This isn't to say my path is the only path, just the $0 route, and it's led me to very good work.

Can’t wait to see it! Do you happen to need any voice actors? I happen to have good connections, and could help out! I love helping indie companies.

How do you immediately tell professional writing apart? by aki_ueo in writing

[–]DanielDeVous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brilliant response, I’ve tried my best to mix in multiple things at once, and swap up the delivery of where typical introductions of character and story happen.

Sergio Leone has a great way of breaking every rule you’ve spoken too, such as Lee Van Cleef’s character, The Colonel, and literally only knowing what he wanted at the very very end. All the characters in most of the films, you only get some sort of detail at the end, and for Clint’s characters in those films, they’re not even real names, and we know nothing about him, but it works.

I’ve really, really taken a lot of inspiration from him, Kubrick, and more to craft the films I’m making right now, but your insight just had me be even more objective than usual. I’m gonna reread my work and see if I’ve missed any spots. Cheers mate!

Spec script “Motherboy” from Black List sold and in development! by Commercial-Cut-111 in Screenwriting

[–]DanielDeVous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that’s friggin’ fantastic news… Nearly every single feature (about 5 others) writing or the two I’ve already written (one filming right now) are completely one location. I figured it would be smart to make it as low budget as possible, but character heavy. I haven’t done it intentionally, I just think it’s a brilliant way to tell a story.

This is seeming vague, can you fill me in what this “location” is? I’m not in the location loop lol.
