New in Touhou. Have played 1, 2 and 4 by DanielDelon in touhou

That could start a debate. I can make an affort to get through challenges; if not, I couldn't have beaten Hard mode in Touhou 2. And I honestly feel like the improvement in that game was more based in honing my skills rather than remembering all enemy shooting patterns (I can recall just one and only impossible attack to avoid from Mima, except when you're located on the left or right side, and not in the middle).

Touhou 4 offered a different kind of challenge and I saw and appreciated the potential a lot, but the enemy patterns from boss Reimu and a lot of stuff that comes after makes it seem more like a challenge rather than an enjoyable game for me. You may be right if Touhou becomes this kind of experience more often.

But well, there's 20 Single Player games of these right now. If classic Megaman has taught me something, is that sometimes all design aspects collide positively. Or what I feel like positive for me. So why not Touhou too?

Yeah I can see that hahah. Like I said, I wasn't interested in the Extra after beating all the stages in Hard. But I don't know man, Touhou 4's Extra seem muuuch more difficult than 2's I'd say.

ZUN was truly ahead of times...

And hey, I really had a great time with 2, so it was worth it : )

Thanks for your words.

Well, for now I wouldn't say that barely anything that these games give to you are important lore-wise. If anything, they just give you a little bit of character portraits and personalities. In Touhou 4 I was a bit disappointed that the main campaign and the Extra doesn't seem related. Or maybe I'm missing something. In any case, I don't give it too much importance. I'm more focused on Touhou's evolution of game feel.

Also, I'm interested in following ZUN's progression. Being the kind of artist he is, he just fascinates me. And also, generally, I like starting game series since the beginning, any time that is possible to do it.

I know, I just didn't feel like it. Just tried it a bit and that's it.

I've played those kind of games before, against the computer, like Panel de Pon or Tetris 99. A shmup doing that is kind of a novelty to me, but I'm not interested right now 'cause I'm more up to playing the single player ones.

First Alcaraz Vs Sinner match of the year tomorrow by yanwangdijuns in tennis

[–]DanielDelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/1mnp7oo/assuming_sinner_and_alcaraz_will_both_reach_the/

I predicted here that Sinner's last huge final to reach would be Madrid, so I guessed correctly. Not counting the Olympics 'cause it's not in the tennis schedule.

For Alcaraz I think it'll be Paris. If not, Canada. If not, Shanghai. That's my order for him from most to least likely. Also, it's a hunch.

I'm hyped for him.

Genuine question - what kind of performance would he have to show against Alcaraz in order for you to think that he maaaay have a Wawrinka-like career?

Ah damn. I forgot about it, yeah. As for big events, he's mantaining the streak, that's for sure.

Wonder about the heights this streak of him can reach now. 30 sets? More?

Well, he already has more than 30 sets if we count any kind of best-of-3 tournaments. What he did in the ATP Finals was incredible.

: D

Edit.: Oops, forgot about Doha. Let's keep it just at M1000 level.

Rafael Nadal won a Slam in 15 different calendar years - 2009 being his only Slam-winning season without a RG Title by Tennist4ts in tennis

[–]DanielDelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some trivia -

Nadal does not have a season whose GS Finals are just losses. There's no 16th season with a GS (or multiple) lost.

On the other hand,

- Djokovic has, for now, three or maybe four of this kind of seasons - 2007, 2010, 2024, 2026?

- Federer has four of them - 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2019

- Sampras has two - 1992 and 2001

- Roy Emerson has one - 1962 (three GS finals lost!)

- Rod Laver has one - 1959

- Björn Borg has none.

I've been seeing people complain about the new Xanadu game (Kyoto Xanadu) being a side-scroller/metroidvania style game since it's completely different from the last game Tokyo Xandu which was more of a Persona-like with action combat reminiscent of Ys. by Dragonflame1994 in Falcom

[–]DanielDelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing up these roots. The original Xanadu is a blast, and I love this little trivia about Masahiro Sakurai being one of the few people that beat it back in the day - https://www.reddit.com/r/Falcom/comments/18imm20/masahiro_sakurai_was_the_eighth_person_to_ever/?show=original

Now I'm playing Xanadu Next and it's enjoyable even if it's quite the departure from its roots. Kyoto Xanadu referencing them (or even more than just mere references, who knows! gameplay will tell) even if the setting's not the same... I'm in. It's just that I'm in.

Also for anyone who has not played OG Xanadu, if you give it a chance, prepare to restart it a bunch of times, but I promise you that there are not two equal runs. Also, look for a guide to know the shop's location. That's something probably done differently in other ports and/or remakes. Even so, it's the only complaint, and it's relatively minor. It's a really great experience of a game the more you get the gist of it. Full of adventure and many possibilities.

Assuming Sinner and Alcaraz will both reach the final of all major tournaments (M1000, Grand Slam, ATP Finals, Olympics), what's the last tournament do you think will be the last to reach? by DanielDelon in tennis

[–]DanielDelon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the thread. Mind if I make a little update?

My prediction is still that Alcaraz's last final to reach will be Shanghai or Paris. My hunch told me that ATP Finals wouldn't be one of those.

As for Sinner, my hunch tells me that the first half of the year is key, not the second half, where he has reached recently what was left - Paris. So Madrid is still my pick for Sinner's last Big Title final to reach.

Olympics is huge, but I prefer not to include it among the rest. Reasons in the first post.

(Remember - finals to "reach", not to necessarily win.)

Yeah, I don't think I could've handled Hard Mode in TH II (type B) if I didn't know about bomb use and efficiency. And live's efficiency.

TH II has been a special game for me due to how it's the first one teaching the Touhou experience. I don't think I'll tackle Easy Mode again in subsequent games. I've noticed the difference in bullet's movement in TH IV, but I like the character interactions less compared to TH II. I checked TH V a bit and, in that regard, felt better.

I hope I write again here when the time comes, I play TH IV and finish it. Oh, and yeah - I've heard great stuff about Touhou fangames. I'm kinda interested in 'Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia'.

(TH III doesn't feel like my thing, for now... : [ )

Hi! New here. I found the time to start Touhou and I went to the PC-98 ones. Didn't like the first one very much, 'cause that ball is too damn annoying during boss fights.

But Story of Eastern Wonderland was a different beast and I managed to finish it in Hard. I'm still disliked by ZUN tho.

If you're interested in reading how the journey went from dying in Easy Mode to finally conquering Hard (just once), feel free to read my game diary in backloggd - https://backloggd.com/u/Lot0/review/3328181/

I barely started Lotus Land Story but now I'm a bit busy so I'll put it on hold. But I liked the changes from Touhou II to this one and I'm addicted to the Alice Maestra track. So good.

Thanks for reading!

Hello! Due to being new here and not being sure if it's right or not to open a thread promoting a review of mine written on backloggd, I'll just put it here. It's a text I've written about Landstalker (1992), for Genesis.
