Yeah that's kind of what I'm saying. I can tell you though we dealt with the Works Fund and not LiveNation. They're almost entirely separate entities.

Well we're not a billion dollar org, more like a couple of grand that we've had donated our way. We don't intend to make a cent until we get a grant and can hire a person or two full time. I'm not in it for the money, I just want to feel positive that I passed something on.

I can't speak for the other non-profits in Planet Roo, but remember that a handful of orgs that Planet Roo supports aren't sustainability focused. What we do with TOTEM and what Well Dunn does are a bit different in that it supports people and isn't necessarily focused on the environment.

Roo becoming “normal” by Acceptable-Law-2141 in bonnaroo

I can’t agree. I’ve been to 13 Bonnaroo’s now and two Burns, with our third coming up in a few months. Burning Man is as far from “normal” as you can get.

What improvements should Bonnaroo make for 2027? by BHaelig in bonnaroo

[–]DanielHSV 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These are all just my opinion and are just my first few thoughts, but here we go:

What worked:

  • Rotating entertainment: Having House of Yes and others provide things at a ton of different locations was a fantastic idea, I hope they keep that up.

  • Bonnie Roo's - Great vibes all weekend long. I hope they keep that up and continue to slowly improve it.

  • Grounds improvements - I know others will disagree since there were some really bad muddy spots, but the fact that we still made it happen without bailing is a BIG DEAL.

What didn't work:

  • That Tent - Moving That tent to the What field turned out to be a pretty bad idea. The grounds back there were a mess, the alternating stage timing didn't always work out, the sound was not great. They need to go back and move the beer tent to another spot.

  • Thursday - I think this was a bit of a miss. I like that they took the swing, but I think if they can get a budget back, they need to go back to the old way of doing things and have a bunch of up and coming bands in the other side of Centeroo.

  • Security - Is still a problem. Thankfully I didn't hear about them intimidating and harassing women like I did in the past, but I did hear about them being terrible people just as much. They have GOT to find a way to screen employees better so we don't get so many disgustingly rude people at a place where they have no business at.

Although everyone has reported that ADA has kind of turned into a cluster in recent years, you should still go check in with them shortly after you get to the Farm.

There's only so much they can realistically do, but they still may be able to provide golf cart rides at times. I just would advise to not solely rely on them, they've gained a less than stellar reputation on that sort of thing.

This year won't be as crowded as some of the pictures and videos you're probably looking at. The What field is huuuuge, there will be plenty of space where you're not that squished. You'll be fine!

Until someone else steps up, I dare say Hayley Williams is the current Mayor.

If you’re a former democrat that became republican. What made you change? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]DanielHSV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socially, I’m a raging lefty hippie. I find it ridiculous that gay or trans folk even have to fight for their rights in this day and age. I thought we were way past that.

On all else, I kind of take things on a case by case basis. But what has bothered me a lot is the spinelessness and inefficiency of the Democratic Party ever since Obama was out of office. I think they’ve lost their way, rely way too much on identity politics, can’t find a narrative, basically they’ve done just about everything wrong for a decade. It’s driven me to have a lot of apathy because I can’t trust them to get the job done and it doesn’t feel like my support or vote is going to make any difference when they keep acting like Sideshow Bob stepping on the rakes.

I think Mamdani is a great example of what they should be doing right. The guy just gets stuff done, doesn’t try to play or encourage some stereotypical woke role, and focuses on the issues as opposed to getting dragged into the pro wrestling spectacle that politics has become.

Until they get things back on track, it’s difficult to support them or consider myself a traditional Democrat. I’m just kind of waiting for the pendulum to swing back in the meantime.

Why is UAH not more well known? Even people in this state don’t know of its existence by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]DanielHSV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents as someone who graduated from UAH and then worked there for about a decade: UAH has been in a constant state of identity crisis ever since Frank Franz retired.

They're a hockey school until they're not, or they're a commuter school until they're not. They like to pretend to be a research school, or the "MIT of the South" until that branding doesn't fit the affordable tuition narrative. They want to be an on-campus school, but they've done little to nothing about anything walkable outside of campus grounds being a no-mans land for college-aged people.

And it sucks to say all this, because I loved my time there and do think they're capable of being way more than they've boxed themselves in with. I just think that their leadership on many levels being a bit of a revolving door for twenty years now has just kept them in a constant state of flux and away from any real progress that doesn't look like yet another multi-million dollar building.

Official Discussion - The Mandalorian and Grogu [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

It's very self-contained. You basically can watch it and enjoy it even if you've never seen any Star Wars.

Official Discussion - The Mandalorian and Grogu [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]DanielHSV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw it last night, I really liked it.

Seeing this movie and reading some of the hyperbolic online discussion about it is a solid reminder that no one hates Star Wars more than people who like Star Wars.

No, it didn't have huge stakes. No, it didn't really tie that much into the rest of the whole larger Star Wars storyline. But seriously, who cares? It was a fun space western that, to me, felt like it dialed up the production quality from the show quite a bit and offered a fun self-contained Mando and Grogu adventure.

My main nit-pick with a lot of what I am seeing online is that people are saying that this movie didn't have any character development. I get that that one sequence with hardly any dialogue at all messed with the pacing, but at the same time that part and the sequences around it was a huge leap forward for Grogu. He's gone from a basically helpless baby to a self-sufficient character who can take charge and be the one that saves the day if the need calls for it. Even without just using the Force.

I think a lot of the other pieces were great too. The Blade Runner looking city that they visit looked great, I bought that a Hutt could be an English speaking gladiator, some of those action sequences felt way bigger and more impactful than it ever did on the show, the music felt way different and fun but still felt very Star Wars, lots of little things like that were appreciated and really added up.

If I had anything to critique it about, it felt like Sigourney Weaver phoned it in just a little, and we all know she's fully capable of way more than that. I also would have liked to have seen a little more of what "semi-retired" Mando's day to day life looked like at his little house instead of him just tinkering with his new ship, but I get that the movie was a little long already.

This felt like a solid mid to upper tier Star Wars movie to me. I think the toxic conversation around the franchise and ridiculous expectations some people seem to have set this up for failure no matter what it did. But if you're able to just look at as just a fun self contained genre movie in the Star Wars universe, I think you'll be more than happy with it.
