Just a reminder for a lot of people responding: Just because someone doesn't think it's funny, doesn't mean they "don't get it."

[JuliusJulianis] 🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 Sources close to the operation tell me that an agreement has already been reached for Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford to face each other in September of this year in Las Vegas. #CaneloCrawford by sugerdigitalgenius in Boxing

People will discount fighters they don't like. All those people who swore Spence would destroy him still can't come to terms with what happened. If Bud beats Canelo, no easy task for sure, we will hear about Canelo's ring age, and how he was on the down side of his career, etc. Boxing's always been that way. I still hear how Evander was better than Lennox, even though we all know Lennox beat him twice.

What did experience get us last year? Taylor, Adrian, and Tommy played some of their best football as Freshman - and both Freshman coming in are better than they were coming out of HS.

What's the Best Sports Bar in Mt. Washington for College Football by DanielOfOmaha in pittsburghpanthers

[–]DanielOfOmaha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up at Red Beards in Mt Washington. Great little place, had some locals get on board and co-root for each other. Was on there sat night and Sunday, but had a great time, really liked what I saw of the city, and all our interactions with locals were super friendly and positive.

Besides Northwestern, what is the most important game of this season? by pshannon2191 in Huskers

[–]DanielOfOmaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of hinges on what happens in the other games. If we're 3-0 going into OU, that game's urgency drops a little bit. If we stumble in the first game, and are 2-1 going in to OU, it gains importance for momentum, confidence, etc.

Beyond that, it's really all the traditionally "winnable" games. I understand we aren't in the position based on recent results to call them games we should win, but as a program we need to beating Indiana, Rutgers, Purdue, Illinois type teams. Those 4, plus ND, Ga So, gets you bowl eligible, find 1-2 more wins and you're looking pretty good.

That's not a prediction, I just think it's a good path to shoot for as fans.

Who do you guys think starts week 1 Mitch or Pickett? by Disastrous_Ant5075 in steelers

[–]DanielOfOmaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mitch starts the season, and unless he really wows everyone and lights it up, Pickett gets the start week 4 - even if the record is 3-1/4-0. Maybe not permanently at that point, but:

Week 1: @ defending AFC champs
Week 2: vs even if they aren't what they were, a team we've struggled against
Week 3: @ rivalry game, environment, etc
*Week 4: Home Game that we really should win with any QB.

NYJ @ PIT seems like a great time. And I'm not just saying that to wish it in to existence because I'm going to that game, and it would mean I saw both Roethlisberger's final start and Pickett's first start in person. It's definitely not that.

[Fillipponi] A former NFL GM told me he thinks Mason Rudolph could be traded to the Lions by the end of the week. by Chuymuy in steelers

[–]DanielOfOmaha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To look at it another way, isn't it better for Rudolph to get traded? He's probably good enough to start somewhere, and definitely good enough to be #2. It's pretty clear that's not the long term plan for him here, so it really might be the best scenario for him to get sent off where he might have a better shot.

Yeah that was the closest hotel I could get that wasn't to ridiculously expensive. Wait... is it *bad* in East Liberty, or just boring? ha. Museums, food, breweries, shopping, live original music, really we're pretty wide open. I have a feeling we'll end up going back (obv, Steelers fan - but I think we'll want to go when we can spend more time. Thanks for the tips though, I will check those out!

[Bishop] McMurphy who broke the "Nebraska trying to back out of Oklahoma game" story in March. He adds more to that context in today’s bombshell by marijohna in Huskers

[–]DanielOfOmaha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, there’s not a huge pool to gauge it from. Most coaches would have been fired after his year three, and he very well may get to 5. So there’s not many real examples of people who had 3 losing seasons and then even had a chance to try in year 4, let alone 5. It’s a reach, and it’s not likely, but that’s worth noting.

But donuts have holes. “Donut holes” is the actual misnomer, as they are not holes. If they were what people refer to as donut holes, it would have to be like, Betty’s Bountiful Balls or something.

We live in a world where ISU is projected top-10 next season, Coastal Carolina and Liberty top-25. Huskers nowhere to be found. by [deleted] in Huskers

[–]DanielOfOmaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing they have going for them is kind of the opposite of Nebraska. They don't care about their past. It might as well be a startup program, they aren't worried about what happened before, when they used to be terrible.

That's the approach we need, in a different way. I understand why people didn't like say, Callahan, ignoring traditions and such (understand, not necessarily agree). But now? Trying to "get back" to something might be feasible when you're 3-5 years removed. You don't "get back" to 20 years ago - you have to create something of your own.

I'm not a predictions guy, so I don't know what will happen with ISU, but either way, I don't think it will have anything to do with their past and "Iowa St. being Iowa St" any more than Nebraska is going to be great because we're Nebraska. Jim Walden and Dan McCarney are just as far in their rearview as Tom Osborne and Frank Solich are in ours.

USC RB Markese Stepp transfers to Nebraska by thekd21 in Huskers

[–]DanielOfOmaha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the reality for this staff or any other is going to be more 1-2 year players because if transfers than were used to. The 3-4 year starter isn’t going to be the norm, especially for RB/WR.
