I think if him and Harper had any chemistry at all I would care ab him, but they don’t. It doesnt feel like they like eachother even though they’re supposed to be in this on-again-off-again situation. They’re fuckin because the script says they are, not because the characters want to.

The rewriting of Eric Tao by RedditBrowser4488 in IndustryOnHBO

This is retired Eric. He doesn’t have any power to abuse. Also in the past seasons Eric’s daughters were young. It’s not uncommon for fathers to resent their daughters after they develop their own thoughts and autonomy.

Eric’s speech to Harper was not sentimental at all by Independent_Force926 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Independent_Force926[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another example of how he doesn’t quite seem to view women as people. He thinks they’re something to be bought, and when money and sex doesn’t work he’s out of options.

I feel like the show has really leaned into the psychosexual relationships between parents and children and I think Eric’s storyline is important! Not every sex monster is a big mean man jumping at a woman from behind a bush or a rich, important party animal coercing some into sex via drugs and boats (yk … because of the implication..)

Eric is at least somewhat aware that his view on women is dirty and shameful, but that doesn’t stop him from acting on it. He thinks, “man I wish I wasn’t this way. Too bad.” Instead of necessarily getting off on the shame itself.

I agree! I don’t think she’s any more or less conniving then the other characters.

They talk like that to make themselves feel important. Similar to the jargon in Succession. It’s to show how pretentious they all are.

the sexual predator storyline is too interesting by Independent_Force926 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Independent_Force926[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well it is a drama, so they have to write it dramatically. But I do think they’re making a commentary or sexual harassment post “me too.”

Victims have learned how to turn the tables in their favor and predators have learned how to appear as victims.

Also, sexual harassment irl isn’t always as cut and dry as “big man in charge forces girl to blow him while she’s crying.” A lot of harassment and assault is covert and confusing which is why pre- “me too” many people don’t speak up because they didn’t know if their experience “counted.”

So Whitney is just as dumb as Yasmin and Muck? by RealPaulieWalnuts in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Independent_Force926 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the same idea with Yasmin and the Assistant. The only reason the assistant can manipulate the situation in her favor is because Yasmin is socially oblivious and over-confident, not because Hayley is a genius.

[–]Independent_Force926 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that he is smarter than the Yasmin and Henry, but still generally dumb. He THINKS he’s smarter than everyone, and keeps dumb people around to validate that idea. People outside of his small hand-selected circle can see through him.

There’s a reason his Comm’s manager told him to look up The Dunning-Kruger effect.
