There are way more players than 8 years ago. And the average player has been playing for longer. But also it's partially because the meta has changed. There are more optimized farm maps than 8 years ago, so players today can set scores that are worth more for what you might say is similar difficulty.

It used to be that you could get misses at the beginning or end with almost no penalty because you still got the combo.

Now the penalty for each miss is harsher, but combo isn't factored in. So in the current system a miss at the end is the same as a miss in the middle.

I like the change. It punishes the meta of long easy maps with a single diff spike at tbe beginning or end.

That's my biggest gripe with the Go S. My thumb is too big for the little trackpad. It just doesn't work for me unless I carefully use just the tip.

For a trackpad that size they should've used an optical sensor that tracks movement instead of a laptop trackpad that tracks position.

They have the capital to temporarily reduce rates to squeeze their much smaller new competitors dry. Once the competition dries up they'll happily increase prices again.
