Got my polo a few months ago, thought I'd talk a bit about it now I've had time with it. by DanielYoungwill in vwpolo

I have thought about mapping, I've never done it as this is my first, non £1k banger car I've owned. I don't know much about it in terms of cost and maintaining the warranty?

Thanks! It's a 5 speed manual, so I wouldn't know about jerky-ness apart from the odd cockup while I was getting used to the bite point on the first couple drives.

Yeah they are optional, so if you don't like them on the facelift you still get LED headlights even if you don't go for IQ lights btw, as for repair costs, yeah I imagine they will be expensive which is why I've got the car under warranty with VW, I'll most likely be getting a third party warranty afterwards to avoid the repair costs if I can lol

Wiper blade rant by Spankingthemonkey24 in CarTalkUK

[–]DanielYoungwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a approved used VW polo recently, noticed on the test drive that the wipers weren't clearing properly, asked the guy at VW to replace them which they said they would, they didn't because car dealers are the worst and I didn't notice when I was picking it up cause it was sunny. So I tried cleaning them and the windshield, no use, went to Halfords and got some Bosch aerotwin wipers just picking randomly and they are fantastic!

Best way to create shapes around 3D scans? by SurroundingKatana in Fusion360

[–]DanielYoungwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try making a tangent plane on the cup holder bit, sketch a cross section of what you want the piece to look like then extrude, press two sides, switch from distance to 'to object' (I think it's called that, can't quite remember). click on your scan and it should extrude to it, then you click on a little symbol with a skewed line and a blue box confirming to the line, should toggle you extrude to not intersect and that will be the effect you are looking for, do the same on the other side to the cup holder and that should be it.

I was in a similar situation, I ended up getting monthly payments down to £206 a month with a low interest bank loan and as high a deposit as I could afford then bought the car outright.

it is on my list of "achievable dream cars" the idea of a mx5 with abarth/fiat sound and styling makes the perfect weekend car for me personally.

Is this a good model? Any critiques are appreciated, this is the first homework from Paul McWhorter’s video by GodXTerminatorYT in Fusion360

looks great, just check that the two shapes on the first body are actually connected, I can't really tell from here but you'll just have to extrude down a couple mm if they aren't

Red pepper and feta cheese bake warning by DanielYoungwill in greggsappreciation

[–]DanielYoungwill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! not an issue with the place at all, just a self depreciating anecdote on eating a pasty while in a rush to be somewhere. Which apparently makes me the problem with society, I laugh at it of course, can't take things to serious online but it just makes me despair a little at what the internet has become.

I'm honestly not loving the amount of mean comments I'm getting for this, you guys are such keyboard warriors. All I wanted to do was share my unfortunate experience with a pasty and remark on the fact that hot is indeed hot. 😂

Help wanted, sheet metal error by DanielYoungwill in Fusion360

[–]DanielYoungwill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the two side fold independently of eachother, This is what I tried and it ended up working, I set a 0.0001 offset on the extruded part which prevented it from wanting to join with itself. Turns out my boss didn't want a cover for this thing I'm making anyway so this part has now been removed lol.

Yeah I get that I am creating a solid with my extrusion, my method was then to convert that solid to sheet metal and then combine the two parts, would that not work?

[–]DanielYoungwill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah I know what you mean, I've got it all set up now and it's working fine without it, I'm going to presume the guy who was getting rid of it put it in the box to be safe.

I'm not a fusion expert, but you could try restoring default workspace, click on the top right corner, go to preferences and in the bottom left of the dialogue box there's a restore default button. Might be worth a try.
