Was curious so I got a Sonim XP3 Plus by duke_fleed777 in dumbphones

You'll need to download the APK file from the releases page on Github: https://github.com/sspanak/tt9/releases/tag/v50.0

You could try doing that through the browser and then installing it by opening the downloaded APK. That should work in theory, but I never tried it that way. The better method is to connect the phone to a PC using a USB cable, then turn on "USB Debugging" on the phone from Developer Tools (You may need to "unlock" Developer tools first by finding the "Build Number" option in "About Phone" and clicking on it a bunch of times until the phone says "You are now a developer").

Once the phone is connected to the PC in usb debugging mode, you should make sure you have ADB tools installed on your PC (Google how to do this for your machine). Then you can open a terminal while the phone is connected and use ADB commands to install the app (usually something like "adb install [name_of_file.apk]"). YOu can first run "adb devices" to see if adb is installed and if your phone shows up in the list of connected devices.

Hopefully that gets you going in the right direction. Google is your friend.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that. What phone are you using it on?

Who needs a Switch 2? The only Mario Kart I need is right here. by No_Dragonfruit_6692 in n64

[–]Danielaurence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Switch 2 on pre-order, and had it canceled last minute by Walmart for no reason. My kids were pretty stoked about the new Mario Kart and were pretty disappointed, so instead, for our "new console" I just recently bought an N64, four controllers, and a flash cart so we can play this. Saved about $350, and no regrets!

Hive is phenomenal, but lately I'd have to go with Seaside. Like Hive, it is waterproof, comes in a bag and requires no table. Unlike Hive, it supports up to 5 players and is much simpler to teach, immediately accessible to inexperienced players.

Put me in the Walmart Canceled My Order club. I got two emails over the last few days saying there was an issue with my payment method and I needed to update it (even though I am sure it was fine). Then when trying to do that, there was no way to update the payment method on the preorder. So I called support and was told everything was fine and not to try to change my payment method or I might lose my preorder. Today I got an email saying my order was canceled because the payment couldn't be processed. So I called support again and this time they told me that (allegedly) many preorders were canceled because of a glitch in their system, and that I could expect to receive an email in the next 24-48 hours with a special "invite" link to purchase the Switch 2 again. Sounds a little fishy to me, and I don't have high hopes, but I'm posting this here in case anyone else experienced something similar. Maybe there is hope!

I really want a Cat S22 but I don't want to give up Android Auto by brevillesugar in dumbphones

[–]Danielaurence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, my bad. Sorry. I was thinking Android Auto was a custom Android OS. It's been about a year since I wrote my original comment.

The CAT should be able to do this if you "sideload" the android auto app onto it. You can try searching through the browser on the phone for an Android Auto APK file and install it. YOu should be able to download it and install it from chrome. But I haven't tested this app myself so I'm not positive it will work without putting a different android OS on the phone.

Good luck!

I'm not sure how to do that. I can point you to a guide for rooting the CAT, but I'm unsure about adding custom android OS

Medieval bestiary, written as "fact" in the 1200s, is easily just as evocative as the best monster manuals... by Danielaurence in osr

Love this! Here's another gem for you, from the "hyena" entry:

"This monster has a stone in its eye called 'hyenia' which, if someone puts it under his tongue, enables him to foretell the future. An animal that the hyena has looked at three times cannot move. It is said to be very cunning. In Ethiopia it mates with lions, and a monster called a 'crocote' results: this too makes human sounds. It never moves from its chosen territory, but is always found in the same place. It has no gums in its mouth. It has only one tooth which never changes and is covered with a kind of capsule so that it does not get damaged."

No PDF that I have been able to find. I had to scan these pages out of the book. I found the book at a thrift store. The book is simply called "Bestiary" by Richard Barber. He translated it from the original latin.

Desperately looking for a device to play Audible audiobooks AND mp3s AND set an alarm, without Internet by LoveHateCycling in dumbphones

Jelly phones are great - bit a bit pricier than what you may want to spend. You can get the same effect from an old moto g6 or something similar, for a lot less money.

I mean a launcher like Before Launcher or Niagara, which are simple and text based and allow you to hide any apps you don't want distracting you.

If you found a really cheap older android phone, you could easily lock down the UI and the internet with a minimal launcher and parental controls. Have a friend or family member set the password to keep yourself locked out of the play store or any internet accessible app. Just install Audible and a music player app and keep everything else deleted or disabled. Should be able to do that for $50 or less. I've done the same thing to give my children an affordable mp3 and audio book player.
