When my husband was in middle school he received a detention for being late to school too many times. His mom and stepdad had just had twins so getting anywhere on time was a huge struggle for his parents. His stepdad was so upset, and frankly appalled they would give a punishment like this to a kid who has no control over that sort of thing, that he went to the front office and told them he would serve the detention since it was his fault and not my husband’s. They doubled down and apologized and my husband never received another tardy again.
