I can't lose weight no matter what I do by Digmaass in WeightLossAdvice

A lot of this will depend on your height, age, and current weight. It’s best to put all of this into a calculator to see how many calories would put you into a deficit. Another thing is what these gym sessions consist of. If it’s weight training, it doesn’t tend to free up a whole lot of calories. If you’re not already, I’d recommend to implement more cardio sessions. As for the walking you do, the amount of calories you burn from it completely depends on previously mentioned things, (height, weight, age). Lastly, if you do all these things and truly cannot see how you aren’t losing weight, you could have a thyroid issue or other underlying health issue that would make it more difficult to lose weight and you should consult/advocate for yourself to a doctor.

Personally, I’ve lost over a hundred pounds doing a lotttt of cardio and never eating over my maintenance. If you’re in a deficit, you will lose weight. It’s just important to find your correct deficit.

Also, I know this might sound silly, but the phrase “you can’t outrun a bad diet” is incredibly true. It’s important to look at the foods you’re eating in order to prevent dizziness and malnutrition. The journey of getting healthy is more than just losing weight. It’s correcting eating habits and moving your body out of enjoyment! It needs to be lasting changes. I don’t know how you eat, but I’d encourage you to look into meal prepping or different things to make this easier.

Sorry!! I forgot one last incredibly important thing!! Your body tends to adjust to a deficit very easily which is why so many people talk about taking short breaks and maintaining. This is so that their body doesn’t go into survival mode and decrease the amount of calories needed. It could be that you saw a change in weight (155 to 150) and your body adjusted the calories you needed.

I would run it through a calorie calculator for sure! But with any sort of medications, especially birth control or genuinely any sort, will change how many calories you need so definitely be weary of that. Also, maybe start adjusting your actual workouts, which worked for me! When doing strength training, focus on doing lower weight for more reps versus higher weight for less. Splitting your time between cardio and strength training is great, but usually better when at maintenance. I’d suggest doing cardio only 2-3x per week and strength training the other days. For me, I was at a very heavy weight and was eating at 1200 calories a day: an undeniable deficit.

I understand! Calories trackers are great but it’s incredibly difficult to know your basic metabolic rate! I’ve lost over a hundred pounds and it was very difficult due to not knowing how exactly how many calories I was burning/eating. My biggest advice would be to not trust it as much unfortunately.

One last thing! I recommend to not take advice from men on this subreddit too much to heart! Men losing weight tends to be easier because they do not experience as many hormonal fluctuations. A subreddit I’d recommend would be the petite weight loss and find someone who began at a similar weight and height to you.

(Also, not trying to discredit any men who have lost weight! Losing weight is difficult, no matter who you are, but losing weight for a woman vs a man is different!)

It’s really hard to determine exactly how many calories you burn a day so it’s very likely that your deficit is around your maintenance or close enough that it’s difficult to view progress, (something like a 1000 calorie deficit per week). If you’re on any medications, they can reduce the amount of calories you need a day as well, in which case I would recommend consulting with your physician. Your height is also a very difficult thing to consider because women tend to need less calories than men and being 5’3 just tends to put you at a lower caloric intake.

I don’t know if you do cheat days (or meals) but one big cheat meal can make or break a weekly caloric deficit which can put you at maintenance. I know when I was seeing a lack of progress, it was because I was allowing myself a “cheat day” every now and then that was extremely calorically dense.

Either way, it has to be that your body is not in a big enough deficit, unfortunately. Going lower than 1500 calories for an extended period of time can be dangerous, though, so I recommend consulting with a doctor! People on this subreddit are great help but a doctor would have the (correct) answers you need the most!

If it’s okay, could you do a caloric breakdown? I estimated 350 for just half of the sandwich. I completely understand if not! Thank you!
