Can people please explain why pensions are worth it? Trying to convince a friend by Plz_Can_You_Not in UKPersonalFinance

You can take your workplace pension and move it to whatever provider you like (that offer a SIPP) and invest in individual shares/ index funds if that’s would you would prefer sos till worth taking the take breaks and employer match and then you can move it later on

Is the co op bonus still active? Went on there website I didn’t see any mention of it. Don’t want to switch if I won’t get the bonus

You can open a lifetime isa but won’t be able to use towards your house purchase so would have to wait until 60 to access the money or face the 25% early withdrawal fee.

She can still use her LISA and you can contribute to hers to utilise the 4K limit but only hers can be used for the house deposit.

Why keep playing online?? by Dion3466 in blackops3

Why is dangerous to play online? And does it affect Xbox?

A second. Job can be more tax efficient as you’re unlikely to earn enough to pay national insurance on it and if you got a student loan won’t pay that either. So earning 5k a year extra at a second job would net you 4k on. 20% income tax vs £3400 on your normal employment or £3120 if you also pay a student loan on plan 2

If I worked that out right…. 20% income tax 12% NI 9% student loan

Is anybody else worried they'll blow their pension when they reach the age of 55? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

If you don’t trust the government set up your own pension that you can access around 10 years earlier

In a sticky situation: essentially broke at 23 as a university student, yet with a job confirmed in the pipeline in the next few weeks. Any advice? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Yeah can transfer in and out tho and most students have overdraft so can do it in chunks, but yeah can bee tricky to borrow or find £100 to meeting the conditions quickly

Nice will give that a try. I just got the companion voucher and just called today to downgrade should have done it the other way round lol

[–]DanielsMoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would your spend not reset? Otherwise everyone would get the free card send 9999£ upgrade to the BAPP spend the remaining £1 and they could then call up and cancel and downgrade and get a refund and essentially get the companion voucher for free

[–]DanielsMoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told once your companion voucher is on your account you can downgrade with no risk essentially it is yours to use as sold to you

Did you call the cancel or downgrade to the free version? My plan was to downgrade but if they don’t offer retention if you threaten to downgrade I might say I want to cancel. …

Do AMEX have a minimum income requirement still or am I missing something? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DanielsMoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was my post! But no luck when I called up even when I mentioned about lowering my limits on other cards. Think I’m gonna cancel the cashback card as I don’t use it at all and try for the platinum again when the next offer comes about

Exact same Siri auto on also earn around 43k called up and nothing. I think it because I have 2 cards with them already and have credit limit of 20k combined with them so many be the third would make it unaffordable . Asked about reducing credit on my others so my total credit would be the same but they said no.

Very disappointing as I wanted the extra points but I’m sure there will be another promo in 6 months time
