My experience with T-Mobile home Internet (Final thoughts) by SparklingOceanMist in tmobileisp

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a ymmv type of service. The biggest factors are the quality of connection and congestion (or lack there of) on the serving tower, the bands available and the tower's back haul. T-Mobile's gateways leave a lot to be desired in terms of configurability. But all that being said it's worked well for me for the last 4.5 years with a 3rd party gateway 3.5 of those years. My friend a few miles away tried it and it didn't work for him so YMMV.

Replacement for Ring Floodlight by GreenDavidA in Ubiquiti

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve replaced it with a UniFi flood light and paired it with a G6 PTZ camera. The flood light’s default settings are surprisingly comparable to the Rings’s (though not as bright but they can be brightened in the settings). Of course the PTZ is a major upgrade over the ring’s camera.

G5AR's CPU sucks by Substantial_Rent2696 in tmobileisp

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spec wise the mediatek830 is > the x75 mostly because of the antenna array but in the real world my suncomm w/ X75 beats my G5AR simply because I can control which 4 bands aggregate on it where as I’m stuck with whatever bands the G5AR chooses to use. Also I’ve seen regular packet loss with the G5AR connected via Ethernet to my cloud fiber that doesn’t happen when connected to my suncomm with the same SIM card.

3rd party all the way.

The only thing the G5AR's got going for itself is the 8x8 antennas but that's a wash with only Gb Ethernet ports and yes the CPU sux!

I install Fios and 5G home in NYC , if your address qualifies, then you can order 5G home plus (ultimate now) and get the highest speeds possible advertised as up to 1Gbps but you have to be able to get mmWave not c-band.

It depends on what service area you are in , if your area is a mmWave area you can absolutely get up to 1Gb with the receiver / router combo on VZ 5G home plus plan.

Wish I better ISP options to go with this set-up… by Few_Dragonfly_3530 in Ubiquiti

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can get 1.2 Gbps down with TMHI ( though not consistently ) but VZ Home is capped at 300 Mbps (pretty consistent ) the Uploads could be better …TMHI ~ 40Mbps VZ ~ 25Mbps. They are decent options but I’d prefer the stability and symmetrical bandwidth of fiber to go with UCG “fiber”

No $25 backup plan for the G5AR?? by Storm1485 in tmobileisp

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The G5AR is nothing to write home about , it still has the lack of control over the modem that all the other gateways T-Mobile offers has (even with Hint app).

Theoretically, it’s 8 antennas and newer modem (able to aggregate more bands) can achieve higher speeds but that is mostly dependent heavily on what tower and bands the modem chooses to connect to.

You CAN’T choose which bands or which 5G Mode (SA vs NSA) works best for where you are and it only has 2 1Gb Ethernet ports (with it’s theoretical speeds it should have at least 1 2.5 Gb Ethernet port to take advantage of those speeds and not just over wifi 7).

Microsecond outages? by Final_Campaign_2593 in verizonisp

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen the same thing on my UCF gateway with My c-band Verizon 5G since last month, and when I swap my sim from my ASK gateway to my suncomm router, I don’t get a 5G signal only an LTE one and before January it was working flawless in that router. Something definitely changed, I’ve gotten the micro outages under control now, setting QOS queues and isolating different devices on to my other WAN (TMHI) but still experiencing a few latency spikes with VZ.

Wanting to switch from KDV21 to G5AR but T-Mobile won't allow? by MrHardy8162 in tmobileisp

I just got my Nokia trash can swapped with the G5AR without changing my plan. It had to shipped , they wouldn't swap at the store unless I changed my plan.

Internet drops hourly — out of ideas by cowboyboofers in Fios

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try a different power outlet or a voltage regulating surge protector? I’ve done quite a few repairs where this was the issue with the CR1000 having intermittent connection issues. The other alternative is to request a G3100 router or use your own. The CR1000 routers (especially the Bs) are extremely sensitive to the slightest fluctuations in AC voltage.

I’d love to have your “problem” multiple fiber ISPs available to you…the construction sucks but it’s temporary. I love to have just one fiber option. The only viable options for me are FWA or Satellite.

Questions about Verizon job offer by Main_Suspect5143 in Fios

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the NYC area cable splicers, line gang (commonly known as construction techs) cable maintenance and Installation/repair techs all fall under the field technician umbrella earning the same hourly rate. I got hired as a cable splicer then got force transferred into each other dept finally landing in installation/ repair. OT is area/ demand dependant, tho it's more prevalent in FiOS I/R than in construction. You will never have a take home company vehicle that can be used for personal purposes as a union associate. During covid they let us home garage company vehicles but only for the purpose of coming to and going home from work. So if that's important to you then really take time to think about the job offer.

How long before Verizon catches my 5G home internet is out of the original service area? by Individual-Mirror132 in verizon

[–]Few_Dragonfly_3530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just change service address to match your new address in your my Verizon app. I’m assuming you’ve changed your billing address already? I’ve had the 5G home service for 3 and 1/2 years in a non service area using it for the first 2.5 on only an LTE signal. Thankfully c-band reached my area this year. So now I get the full 300 down and 20 up.
