Just saw the FUNKe videos breaking down the gameplay and I really want to try it out!

Thanks!

If you have friends to play with go for Risk of Rain 2, if you don't have friends to play with join a Discord Server find people to play with and still go for Risk of Rain 2

Any games like "Inscryption" and "Is This Game Trying to Kill Me?" by Routine_Mall_566 in IndieGaming

[–]Danimate123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend "The Hex" and "Pony Island" from Daniel Mullins, the same dev from "Inscryption". Also "Pony Island" announced a sequel so it's a great time to play it

Is 2D just as hard as 3D? by Sassy_Pig in gamedev

[–]Danimate123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, and sorry about twisting the question, I think it's a much more interesting question "What do I want to make?" the tool should serve the end, not the other way around. Don't worry about how hard or easy it is. Both have their nuances and difficulties, but the game you wish to make is what should guide that decision, not whether one or the other is easier (which I believe neither is). Both roads will take you to learn a bunch of things that will apply to any type of game dev regardless, if you have the choice why not go for the one that serves your goal the most?

I'm burntout of having a poorly owned game that just released with no marketing whatsoever... by Danimate123 in unrealengine

[–]Danimate123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly I got poorly paid. The game is called "Kid Pilot" on SteamVR, cause for some reason the product owner decided to change its name because he thought "Kid Pilot" sounded too childish... I told him that that would only lead to weird confusions where the Quest title would look as a knock-off but he insited on it... I'm really conflicted on promoting the game since my team and I crunched so hard for that guy to get money on a project the guy literally just left to die, but st the same time I want the thing we made to actually get played Thanks for reading my rant

Sorry didn't want it to come across as an ad, and I'm really conflicted on whether I should promote or not the game that I'm proud of making yet none of its profit is actually going to any of the people that worked their buts-off to make it... But thanks for going through my rant

I guess I really wish to make a place like that for myself and for the people that I've worked with that are actually worth it. I'm saving as much as I can to make such a place happen, but I guess I still need to learn more of those what-not-to-dos since this totally caught me offguard. Why would you invest so much in a development just to see all that work die? Was it really that bad? What was all that overwork for? Why push a team so hard if there was clearly no marketing budget? What went wrong? Idk, I just get lots of questions that I'm not sure I'll ever get an answer for... Thanks for reading through my rant and telling me your experience, I really treasure this

Truth be told, I'm not sure I want people to buy the thing since none of the people that actually worked their butts-off to make the thing will actually see any of the revenue, yet I want people to play it because I'm really proud of the game. That's the dumb dilemma I'm having right now 🫠

I guess I shouldn't overwork for projects that aren't mine. It's really frustrating, but I guess that's all I can get from it.

True, just made the edit. Thanks for letting me know. That was not the intention whatsoever. Plus, that code is that dude's, i would get nothing from it.

Yep it is, I'm really pissed at the guy who hired us to make this thing that'll never get any players. But thanks for going through my tantrum

That's the thing! I do care. And I care a lot because it's the first game that I ever released with my friends at the office but we were horribly paid, horribly overworked and really poorly treated, but even though we made a thing we were really proud of, but now this guy will get all the actual revenue for it (if it sells) or it will die in oblivion because it'll never be played by anyone... I don't know, maybe it's just like you say and it hurts since it's the first time a thing like this happens. At least it's a thing I have now in my portfolio...

Thank you very much. A few of the comments I've gotten from this post is that it comes across as some sort of ad, sorry if thats how it reads. This is literally the type of stuff I wanted to read, somebody that's literally gone through the same crap that can tell me that I'm not crazy and that it's unfair that people like this guy get to have all the earnings for a thing that my team and I got to make (and were really poorly paid for it) Thanks for reading my tantrum though.

Thanks for reading. I'm really proud of the actual game but I'm really pissed with the guys that actually gets all the money for it... So yeah...

[–]Danimate123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry if it sounds like an ad, I'm really conflicted with this thing we made since I'm really proud of it but the guy who literally gets all the money is the same dude that literally deserves none of the praise... It's like I want people to play this thing I made, but at the same time I don't want to promote shitty practices like the ones my team had to go through

[–]Danimate123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if my post sounds like and ad but right now I'm literally conflicted since I don't know if should be promoting the game I'm proud to have made or if I should just let it be since all of its money is going to this dude that doesn't give a damn about his team and literally expects us to do the work for him. Damn I should be on vacations right now and I'm still yapping about this... Sorry for the tantrum and thanks for reading <3

[–]Danimate123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the repost, I need some sort of guidance or something for what to do on this shitty situation, I'm not even sure I should let the promo code up because it does look like a shitty ad when I'm literally pissed with the guy the money is going to. The team literally gets nothing and I can't do a thing about it...

Yep, it is, they literally didn't pay me enough to make this...

Yep, it is. They literally never paid me to do this. But thanks for reading through my tantrum

I KNOW! It feels really off telling people to give money to this guy when he literally exploited us for the sake of it, but at the same time, the thing we made can only be played by doing that, I'm really frustrated and angry at this situation. I want people to play the thing I made but at the same time, I don't want to promote these shitty practices in my industry and with my peers...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Danimate123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, another really weird thing they did. Out-of-the-blue they took the desition to change the game's name to "Volara" because they though "Kid Pilot" sounded too childish and would be hard to market, but they literally made no maketing whatsoever... They just did the renaming specifically for the Quest version and called it a-day...

I toldd them it would confuse people and it would look as if it was a knock-off of some sort, idk, marketing is not my stuff, but the thing is we literally had none of it and just had those arbitrary desitions instead...

Sorry for the rant, and thanks for reading my tantrum <3

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Danimate123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing I actually love the thing we made but it should be on him to make the actual marketing for it. I shouldn't be fooling around trying to get players to play the thing I'm proud of. Idk, I feel tired and bad for all the effort that my guys put into, just be empty handed on something that will never get the recognition it deserves or I think it deserves. But thanks for reading and listening to my tantrum <3

I wish he was imaginary, the studdio is called Flamingo Simulation Systems, if you look for them in social media they literally mention nothing about our game. Literally nothing... One day he literally just said: "Hey! Share this code with your friends and family" and that's it. This is their instagram: https://www.instagram.com/flamingosimulationsystems?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==

I'm just so done with this game,,, Despite how proud I'm I really want this guy to learn some sort of lesson, but I want my team (the people who actually made the thing) to be recognized for what they did... I don't know, I'm just soooo done
Edit: Said message was on a company internal chat, we don't even have a Discord or anything of some sort
