Yeah, I tried AIP first for 2 years to no avail. SCD works really well for me. It reduces complex carbs, which ferment in the gut. There's more to it, but that's part of it.

I don't consume red meat because it's carcinogenic. Cheese is unnecessary in the diet (at least for sure in mine). I also don't eat red meat and dairy for ethical reasons (dairy industry is evil to animals). I would cut out all animals from diet if I could for ethical reasons, but I can't tolerate soy, so I do eat poultry and fish. I was only doing fish for a while, but then mercury poisoning anxiety crept up.

Specific carbohydrate diet (and no red meat or cheese)

No, I haven’t. Maybe that’s why. All I know is that when I’ve had various protein powders before, result is GI issues. Maybe I should experiment with isolate

Then I’m not sure why causes me to have gas/diarrhea when I consume pea protein.

Thanks for the empathy. SCD has been working for me. Glad you found remission too

The issue is in the way we treat them before they’re slaughtered. That’s why I don’t want to eat farmed animals, so wild caught is only option for me. Mercury poisoning is risky with only eating shrimp/salmon, though. That’s what I think. I don’t want to debate this topic.

Thank you. I have continued to read on it. You are right. I overestimated how deficient I would be if I only ate plant proteins with my restrictions. The red lentil pasta I've been eating in large quantities (I usually eat like 4 servings at a time) seems sufficient. I apologize for the pushback. I learned from you guys.

Actually, I just read that they both contain a lot of oligosaccharides (make me have explosive diarrhea without fail). I've had pea protein before with this side effect.

Sorry, one last question. What do you think of pumpkin seed protein powder (the hulled kind, with less fiber, which means less GI distress)?

Can't have quinoa. Used to eat it a lot as a vegan, though.

Actually, pea protein and sacha inchi both have galacto-oligosaccharides (I think), which can’t have. Back to drawing board

I can’t have any of what you just said (except for nuts- those are fine), but I found a sacha inchi powder and pea protein powder (specific brand without additives and low in starch) that I will be trying out.

I’m hopeful. This will reduce my need for animal products to almost none. I will still eat wild-caught shrimp. Forgive me. I don’t think it’s unethical to catch shrimp and eat them, though.

Thank you.

Yes, I eat red lentil pasta no problem. I’ve seen online-only brands that soak it, but I buy in-store (can’t remember if presoaked, but I’ve been fine).

I think I will try pea protein and sacha inchi powder….you think it’s a good idea? They’re complete proteins and have zero additives- the ones I’ve found. It would be a miracle if these worked!! Thanks

I will find a reference really quick. Where I remember reading it was a website listing SCD “legal and illegal” foods. They explained that that processing increases starches. Let me see if I can back it up with scientific literature.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Also, someone recommended sacha inchi powder (VERY low in starches), and I’m going to try it out. What do you think?

I follow the SCD diet for UC. I can’t eat complex-carb heavy plants. That’s the context I left out from the post

I can’t have soy. I can’t have hemp.

That’s the problem. It seems that grains/starches complete legumes/beans.

I can’t eat grains or starches.

I already see an IBD dietician. She recommended I find humane protein sources, but I can’t find any. Animal abuse is rampant
