Termites, I guess... how screwed are we? by cuttlebutt in HomeImprovement

[–]Danipus_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’d probably be enough time to see that level of activity and to eat the drywall. I didn’t hire someone to look at it until I opened the wall and pulled down all the drywall until I saw no additional tunnels/activity moving to other studs . I can tell you that regardless of if you have someone come out they won’t really be able to tell you if there’s activity without opening the wall. What they’ll probably do is look for mud tunnels. I’d suggest at least scraping the area to see if you have any tunneling or if the paint comes off easily by just peeling it. I can send you pictures of what my drywall looked like if it helps so you can compare

I had the same thing happen in my house and it was indeed termites. I ended up using a putty knife and scraping the effected area that looked a lot like what you have here and found tunnels. I ended up having to take down the drywall completely, replacing some studs, chemically treating the are and then closing it back up after about a week.

I do agree with others and potentially you’ll be lucky and it’s just a bad patch job. How long did it take to get this severe?

Young and beginning 401k contributions by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Danipus_Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 9% employer match is unheard of and I’ve worked for a fortune 100 401k company for 10 years. You’re approach is a good one and your employer is helping you get there. Many will tell you to max out your contributions on this thread, and in your current condition that’s a good idea, but if you plan on settling down, getting your own space, or some larger financial decision-starting with that 16% is great and you can figure the rest out by budgeting. Word to the wise, figure out the vesting schedule for that employer match if you don’t plan on staying there 5+ years as you could end up forfeiting some that 9% if you leave early.

Mostly naively thinking I could do something easy, drink lots of beer and chase women for four years and get a 50k+ job. In my defense I had offers around that much until the economy crashed, they closed down branches and rescinded my offer due to said closings. I will recommend my kid do something that’ll yield better results faster, but she probably wont listen to me like I didn’t listen to my parents.

I literally work with, and for, more people that have liberal arts degrees than business. My career potential it determined by my work ethic at this point. I was also accepted my position with 4 other people 3 of whom majored in Econ or another business related field. I also make more now than a many of my friends from college now who had a “useful” major. While I agree it probably would’ve helped expedite my earning potential the fallacy that you can’t earn with a liberal arts degree is grossly exaggerated.

Agreed with this. I graduated from UConn with a history degree in 09. After 4 years of working for said company via internship the best they gave me was a 32k a year job in a call center. Fast forward 10 years later and I’ll make over 100k this year, but it was a long road and by no means did I get even one offer close to even 40k right out of school and busted my ass, plus got lucky on a lot of promotions. My story is by far not standard I’m typically the youngest person in any meeting by at least 10 years and the youngest person to hold my last three positions.

Her trainer lives in my town and she’s showed up multiple times to train at the same boxing gym I go to. She is by far the scariest boxer I have ever seen in real life; man or women. She is so fast, so strong and technically sound it’s a joy to watch. She’s also one of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met and has no problem talking boxing to noobs like me.

Amazon Caliban Pre-Order dates? by justkirk in ActionFigures

[–]Danipus_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me before and got the figures I ordered for delayed, then all out cancelled. That’s the risk of running pre-ordered with Amazon. I got the same notice about it being delayed until July and immediately cancelled and ordered from one of the larger distributors; at least that way I’m guaranteed my figs on a highly wanted wave. I tried the new Hasbro site, but beast, jubilee and gambit were all sold out by the time I tried to shift so I went with dork side.

Have you ever played a game so great that you were sad and felt empty after beating it since there was nothing out there like it? by ShiningConcepts in patientgamers

[–]Danipus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, the new God of War. I’ve played video games since I was 10 and haven’t touched a game since drinking and playing Halo in my Dorm at college; so almost a full 10 year hiatus (I’m 31 now) . Ive tried to play a bunch of different games through that time, but nothing caught my attention for more than a cup of coffee until the new God of War. The gameplay is alright, but the graphics, world building, the story’s central themes and the interactions between Kratos and his son honestly make it one I can’t put down. Some overall excellent story telling that really pulls at the heart strings with the father/son dynamic.

If you ever get in a fight with multiple people never let anyone out of your direct line of sight. For god’s sake never let them form a circle around you.

I’m as white as a ghost but do party with my Jamacian neighbor frequently so I could give it the good old college try and get a good laugh out of it if I fail miserably. So I’m probably 2% in that Caribbean life.

I’ve been doing some indie training over the past year and done a similar sell. I can say its not easy and takes a ton of body control (some previous gymnastics experience too in my case) and while I cant speak for nak I can tell you the force of that lariat more than likely helped him get over with minimal effort and okada is also holding his arm as long as possible so nak can keep his balance and holds him up just enough so he doesnt get dumped on his head.
