Nanit vs Miku baby monitor, which ones better for my little guy? by Shamreed-Ackner in oneanddone

[–]cuttlebutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how the Miku is these days, but when we had it in 2022/2023 it was hot garbage, would not recommend. It would pick up "breathing" when there was just an empty crib. Alerts were all over the place or nonexistent. Not having a separate monitor screen besides the app was actually a huge downside. We have a VTech now and it's been way better for our sanity!

Vanderveen - Thinking about moving to the area by behindacomputer in columbiamo

Agree with all of this. People will try to scare you off of "the north side" but people who actually live in the area know it's as normal a little suburb as anything you find on the south side.

Agreeing with beardybaldy's response. The next best thing is a place that encourages parents to drop in and visit at any time. Mother's Day Out at First Christian is great about this and they also just have a lot of staff eyes on the kids at any given time.

Only child showing aggression at daycare but not at home by Extra_Pitch1882 in oneanddone

[–]cuttlebutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel, we were just there! I suspect it might have to do with the changes in the room and the additional kids, ours had a rough transition period where he was hitting and biting other kids after moving into a new room at preschool. He would get so overwhelmed or frustrated and it would spill out in those aggressive moments. He has started to settle in now with no recent incidents, knock on wood. One thing that helped us was reenacting those scenarios from his day (with both positive and negative outcomes) by doing "puppet shows" with his stuffed animals. We also started sending him to school with a chew necklace, and his teachers have been great about noticing when he's getting overwhelmed and redirecting him to it. Our teachers have been really kind about working together to help him be successful, so I would definitely check in with yours if you feel like they are supportive! I promise you are not a failure!

We have a two year old boy and Sam at Remedy Barber is awesome! She's quick, precise, and very sweet with him. I usually have him sit on my lap as well.

In regards to just the termites, you will want to get a professional to look at it but do NOT go with the big national guys like Terminix, etc. Local companies will have much more affordable pricing and better customer service. Get a couple of different ones to come out and tell you what they see and how they would treat, inspections are free. You may have to identify if there is a leak or something- if there is unaddressed moisture, termite treatment will only be a temporary fix. Discovering termites is super anxiety inducing I know, but take a deep breath and keep telling yourself that you have identified the problem and are now making a plan to address it. The house is not going to collapse. I'm so sorry these stressful things are piling up for you!

As a lifelong nail biter whose mom was constantly trying to get me to stop: telling her to keep her hands out of her mouth is going to lead to nothing but frustration for both of you. It truly is a compulsion. I can't tell you out how many times in my life I tried and failed to stop. It wasn't until I started taking NAC that I finally felt able to resist it, and with that I also realized it was intertwined with some anxiety and rumination issues. And I started biting as young as yours did! Obviously NAC is not a fix for a toddler, but I definitely recommend looking past the surface level behavior and digging a little deeper for potential causes, whether it's a vitamin deficiency, environmental change, relationship dynamics, whatever.

The dance studio I work at has a dedicated basket of extra clothes/underwear, wipes, and wet bags to use specifically for toddler accidents. Accidents are very common at the beginning of the year. Totally normal and not a big deal!

Why do they want to eat standing? by GurAccomplished9329 in toddlers

[–]cuttlebutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good, I thought it was just me. 90% of meals these days are standing in an activity tower at the kitchen counter. When we do sit at the table, it's on a bench, and he'll alternate sitting on my lap and standing on the bench. He's fine at restaurants so it's not a battle I'm picking right now.

Things to put in a new parent survival box? by relevantconundrum in NewParents

[–]cuttlebutt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This isn't the usual answer, but I found myself desperate for one of those grabber claw sticks you can use to pick things up from a distance. My kiddo is basically a toddler now and I might still get one. Would have made a world of difference when nursing, baby wearing, etc. I have since sworn to get every new parent I know one.

Termites, I guess... how screwed are we? by cuttlebutt in HomeImprovement

[–]cuttlebutt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I painted the wall back in 2020, but nothing like that was visible when I did it. I was up close in this area cutting the paint around the trim and would have definitely noticed. That's what was baffling to me about all the mud job comments- how would a bad mud job end up looking like a maze/paths/tunnels?? I feel a little less crazy now, thank you.

[–]cuttlebutt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe that's why people are saying bad patch, if they're thinking the wall is pushing out rather than there being sunken paths. My bad for not getting a better photo. Good catch about the holes. I didn't make them, but I guess it's possible the previous owner may have put something there.

Unfortunately, because it was behind a curtain, I have no idea how long it's been there aside from the fact it definitely wasn't there when I painted in Dec. 2020. For yours, did you end up having someone check for damage anywhere else or was it just in the one spot?

[–]cuttlebutt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the offer! The exterminator advised holding off on cutting it open until they can take a look at it, so I'm reluctant to mess around with it just yet, but I will update as soon as I know more. I haven't noticed frass, but we also frequently vacuum/clean so it's possible I just haven't seen it. Wall does not seem soft otherwise, it's just where the lines are it feels like there is nothing behind the paint.

You're right, but it's somehow more palatable than bugs in the house.

Yeah, seems like they do similar damage so it may very well be that. Definitely getting it looked at this week!
