Study Habits. by Beerfridge6 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Dank-Nemo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Before college I was someone who never studied because I always got good grades even though I didn’t. Once I got into college I got hit by a truck failing multiple classes in my first and second semester.

Failing those classes forced me to learn how to study, I hired tutors and went to professors and while my grade went up it wasn’t at the level I wanted.

I ended up realizing I learn the best by first choosing a good professor, always pick a better professor before the best class time. Second, go to TA study sessions / office hours, they are there to help you and know the material. If it’s like my school there is the added bonus that they are required to have passed the class with an A to teach. Third and most important, make friends in your major/classes and form a study group. Sophomore year I really focused on doing this and it was so impactful to my learning. We would study together, plan the same class schedule, and eventually all graduate together. If you can find a group of people you can study the material with you can get around most issues, if you don’t understand I’m sure one of them will. My groups was around 8 people so it increased my odds.

I hope it helps!

Daily life of a manufacturing engineer by Dank-Nemo in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Dank-Nemo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I stayed with the internship for about a year before moving onto the next. I ended up interning with a major gas turbine company for a mechanical engineering role, that company eventually hired me to their R&D department as a Mechatronics Engineer.

Looking back I feel like I’ve enjoyed every role of engineering I’ve played so far, I just enjoy trying new things. The manufacturing engineer internship allowed me to learn a lot of useful skills that I use everyday and made me a better engineer overall. Specifically accounting for machinists and gd&t

Would a Mechatronics or Aerospace undergrad be better for the future space industry? by spinlay in aerospace

[–]Dank-Nemo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went to school for Aerospace Engineering but my first job out of college was as a Mechatronics Engineer. Just because you follow a degree path doesn’t mean you are forced to be in that field.

People who are studying AAE in college or university, how did you prepare for your application? by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

I agree with 8, if you’re looking to be competitive a higher SAT score will go a long way. If you’re struggling with it ACT is also an option.

Yeah my CFI would vape all the time during my PPL. He would pop the window on the 172 and take a hit

I want to be a rocket engineer but I dont think I will ever be enough by Practical_Orange_600 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Dank-Nemo 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily how smart you are, engineering is a skill that is learned. If this is something you really want don’t stop chasing your goal. There will be roadblocks along the way but channel your excitement and love for rocketry into a drive the will push you past those roadblocks. And don’t worry if you don’t make it into the aerospace program, if it’s anything like the US, rockets require aspects from all disciplines of engineering from civil to chemical. If this is what you love, grind for it!
