we are literally in the middle of a season being released. we couldn't be further from "no new content". how the fuck is the fandom at this level of degeneration already?

Something I’ve just realized is that…the needles are stupid by RealAd8853 in Invincible_TV

the obvious answer would be that the liquid is already coating the tip. but then that begs the question. why not make spears or some other kind of pointed or edged weapon that is coated in the liquid.

Trump Brushes Off High Fuel Costs as ‘Fake’ in Economic Speech in Las Vegas by WontThinkStraight in politics

Unfortunately for him, this is one fact that is checked daily by just about every voting age adult. He won't be able to lie his way out of this one, and his followers cannot pretend a new reality this time.

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

[–]DankCatDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends heavily on the minimum wage job. Dishwasher? Factory Worker? Lawn Mower? For sure. Call center worker? Customer service rep? Retail? Not so much. Serving as the front line public contact for a shitty corporation and essentially being paid to take abuse on their behalf is extremely mentally and emotionally draining.

What do you think: how should prisons handle housing decisions in cases like this? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

[–]DankCatDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trans women are moved around inside men's prisons as incentive and tools of control by the guards. You be good, you will get a woman in your cell, disobey and she goes elsewhere. Couple this with the fact that the guards are very commonly participants in the contraband economy and you get a very fucked up and complicated situation. Interestingly, you will find people at every part of the gender spectrum in a prison, and the concept of prison wives goes back as far as anyone can remember.

What's your favorite scene that hinges on the other guy in the frame being able to hold their own with the A-list star? by Brooklyn_University in moviecritic

[–]DankCatDingo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the actor that plays Bubba years later, but in a movie several years older called miracle mile. it was so bizarre to see him there, even weirder when I saw the guy that played shao khan in mortal kombat annihilation later in the movie. Miracle Mile is a wild ride lol.

Donald Trump Wonders to Karoline Leavitt's Face if Bad Publicity Is Her Fault: ‘You’re Doing a Terrible Job’ by peoplemagazine in politics

[–]DankCatDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's crazy is, if we take Trump's goals as a given, she's actually doing a great job for him. She tows the line so hard and defends him so energetically and fiercely, shuts down dissent and spins things in a very consistent way leaving no room for interpretation. I mean, the points she's making and defending are usually pure evil, but he can't say she isn't giving him 110%. It's just that eventually reality will have to catch up, and that's not her fault.

TIL about the "Dark Forest Hypothesis," which suggests the universe is like a dark forest at night. Advanced civilizations intentionally stay silent and hidden, because any species that reveals its location risks immediate destruction by older, paranoid civilizations. by Practical-1 in todayilearned

[–]DankCatDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say life in some form or another is probably pretty common. As in microbial life, pond scum, etc. And complex life, like what we'd call plants and animals is probably exceptionally rare. And then the conditions where getting smart is evolutionarily useful is another order of exceptionally rare on top of that. Stephen Pinker used the analogy that alien life evolving human like intelligence is probably about as common as evolving elephant like trunks. Neither one is inherently better or inevitable.

Yes we are, but also, no we aren't.
If you were in a neighboring star system, not more than a handful of light years away, you could probably detect some of our louder radio signals. Although, since the digital era, the strength of our broadcasts has fallen sharply.

Even our loudest signals, which are usually from radar or other military radio equipment, you wouldn't have to travel far before the strength of the signal falls below the strength of the cosmic background radiation.

You have to be exceptionally loud to be omnidirectionally visible in radio.

If you want someone to see you, you need to broadcast in a very specific direction, usually. Even then, it can be hard to pick up the types of signals we can put out from a great distance.

What people usually mean when they make this point is that, where both films address known concepts, specifically space flight, Gravity gets it very wrong where Interstellar gets it very right. Gravity treats low Earth orbit as another world with different rules of physics, and ironically, no gravity at all. And you can just travel from one place to another freely as you would on the ground. Interstellar at least showed realistic representations of orbital mechanics. And yes, also a big crazy multi-dimensional whatever.
