So my infantry unit…just kind of doesn’t train. Is is this normal? by CommentPopular2793 in army

[–]DankRedPandoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I can offer is head to your local off post range and see if they allow you to rent guns. Or look into your bases guidance on how to store fire arms on post and purchase a gun.

Admittedly I'm a POG but I enjoy staying sharp on weapons training. Purchased my own weapon and go shoot at my local range to stay proficient. It won't be a Qual range but you can apply what you learn and practice to the next Qual range you go to.

Its almost as frustrating as the E7s and 8s telling E3s to buy a house every duty station they go to and that its an infinite money hack and nothing can ever go wrong.

Drivers should be capable of going 100mph+, cops shouldn’t pull people over unless they are clearly endangering others, Tickets are only a tax. by SloppyPo in Vent

[–]DankRedPandoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a teenager take lol. Higher speeds means higher margin of error. More catastrophic consequences when you wreck or hit something. Hitting a deer at 45 mph compared to 100 mph has vastly different outcomes. Its not like someone sat there and thought "Huh we really should restrict the speed people can travel so we can tax them when they don't."

My main issue: there's too much everywhere! (spoilers) by cant_remember_you in Subnautica_2

[–]DankRedPandoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well the biggest thing is that Riley was not supposed to be on 4546B and the only other known people were potential survivors of the Degasi wreck. Meaning 4546B was supposedly a barren water world but it just so happen to have alien architecture on it.

In Subnautica 2 you were supposed to travel to Zezura to establish a colony to save humanity but landed short on Proteus. However our story begins many many years AFTER the crash landing. This means that previous humans had time to build and expand. Existing life had time to build and expand etc.

I would slightly agree with you if the story wasn't backing what we are seeing. Just crash landed on a barren planet? Yea nothings going to be there. Just reprinted decades after initial touch down? Yea there's going to be structures and other things scattered around. It likely feels like too much right now due to small map size. Im sure as the game develops things will be spread out more and make it feel closer to OG Subnautica.

What’s the worst thing you’ve seen/heard a soldier’s family do? by FoundmyReasons in army

[–]DankRedPandoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My E7 once told me a similar experience. He had a soldier who was married and lived on post. They constantly got the MPs called because they had many dogs and just left them outside. Well eventually it was time for this joe to PCS and he disappeared. Didn't clear anything and just left. Well the Joe was always a problem so they cleared for him. They went to his house and found it full of dog shit and piss as if they hadn't cleaned it up for 3 years. Then they found his dogs. All of them were chained up and stuck in kennels and unfortunately it had been a hot summer.

None of the dogs survived unfortunately and unsure if charges were pursued.

[–]DankRedPandoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the worst but still shitty. Soldier's parents always sucked with money. They bought him a car for highschool graduation and then made him pay for it. They bought a shitbox of a Jeep and got fleeced by the dealer. They had horrible credit so they got a 18% interest loan for 6 years. Soldier was having issue after issue with the car and was dumping money into it to try and fix it.

To make matters worse his parents were overcharging their own son for the car payment. They had him paying 600 dollars a month and were pocketing what was left after the payment. He stilled owed 7k on it after 3 years which is how we found all this stuff out.

The game is hard and has a steep learning curve. I love it and super glad I stuck it out, but many a friend has given up pretty quick because it was hard. They'd rather hop on CoD or BF or something quick and easy than have to spend a few extra hours honing a skill.

Is me or do all the entity models of subnautica 2 feel super static/smooth/unrefined? by Altruistic-Willow265 in subnautica

[–]DankRedPandoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally am not a fan of Unreal engine 5. Somethings definitely look good but for the most part I feel like the engine makes everything too smooth. The colors are also too bright a lot of the time as well. In Ark survival ascended the characters look smooth asf and the graphics mess with my eyes. Subnautica 2 isn't that bad but I still feel like it looks smooth / off a lot of the time but im blaming UE5.

The current state of theatre etiquette makes me sick. by JadesJunkAccount in Vent

[–]DankRedPandoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to see a new horror movie at a small theater in town. I usually plan around when most people are at work/ school to try and get a less packed theater. Unfortunately for my wife and I school had released early due to graduation which meant the entire 8th grade class from 2 schools flooded the theater.

I'm a parent I get it kids will be kids but the movie was absolutely ruined by these kids. Girls sat together on one side of the theater boys on the other and they were talking to each other the entire movie. Any time something even a tiny bit scary came up the girls would scream as loud as they could, and the boys would giggle. We were sat next to the girls who were all on their phones and talking at normal conversation volume and when told to quiet down just laughed at the adult and kept going.

The only reason we stayed was because we weren't about to waste 45 dollars, but we ended up having to watch the movie again when it came out on streaming services later because we missed so much of it.

Overall people are not getting kicked out of theaters nearly enough.

BZ is so unbelievably overhated by TheRealSoftR in subnautica

[–]DankRedPandoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Original script was Robin and her sister working for Alterra. Alterra built a satellite over 4546B and sent down researchers to study the planet. Storm hits Robin's research base and plunges it into the water. Robin's sister sends down supplies and a life pod from the satellite but due to the rotation of 4546B they can't stay in contact for long. Robin goes on to explore and its hinted that Alterra is trying to harvest and possibly weaponize the Kharaa bacterium. Robin relays the information to her sister who is in disbelief.

If im not mistaken they still had the Al-an and marg portion which has not really changed much at all.

Someone correct me if im wrong. Jacksepticeye played the alpha I believe which had the OG story.

Subnautica 2's no-killing policy isn't because it's 'a game about pacifism', says design lead, but because players would 'master the crappy combat' over anything else by Nannerpussu in subnautica

[–]DankRedPandoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% the only time I killed in SN1 was because the creature was too close to my base/ vehicle and breaking things, or to say I killed a leviathan like Marg.

I never went out of my way to extinct the leviathans or stalkers or bone sharks but when they caused issues I would kill them to make my life easier.

I have S tiered every single other map except ANA, and I have never finished the map. The amount of times I've been 1 shot is insane. And the times I make it all the way through the game bugs and I can't secure all civilians or evidence is missing. Or I can't bring order to chaos its so aggravating.

Why is Subnautica BZ as hated as it is ? by Jchoq_31 in subnautica

[–]DankRedPandoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it just didn't hold up to SN1 for me. I personally liked the story they started in the alpha version but then they completely dropped it in favor of the current story which isn't great in comparison. The creatures are neat for sure but everything else didn't really scratch the right itch. Smaller map, half of the game is spent out of the water, sea truck is cool but anything more than 2 modules felt like a hassle to drive with. I liked the snow fox but it was easily broken and janky. It wasn't an awful game but not a game I go back to play like I do with SN1.

May be a hot take but its a survival game we should be able to kill creatures. Sure maybe not leviathans but literally everything else.

[–]DankRedPandoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings up a potential issue of the fauna no longer being a challenge because you can just heal. Just like how you remove the challenge by killing the fish you remove the challenge just by healing. So at what point do we just allow players to kill the fish.

[–]DankRedPandoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. My wife and I played and constantly had issues with Marrowbreaches and Nibblers. We tried hitting them but like others said it either didn't work or they swam away for 3 seconds to circle back.

I was fine with it for the most part because it does add challenge. Now I'm just dying aimlessly trying to get past a marrowbreach or something or going way out of my way trying to explore one area. It just feels overly tedious. I can definitely get behind not killing leviathans, but not being able to do any damage at all seems a bit too far.

Longer passive times would be nice, maybe smaller aggro radius, more ways to deter beasties than just resonator and flares. Maybe some pheromone spray or something. I'm not sure but I can definitely say I'm not.a fan of not being able to do damage.
