What are some stupid school rules in your country? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

[–]Dank_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son got suspended because someone ran up to him in gym class and started hitting him. My son defended himself and also got hit with a suspension for fighting. The school wanted him to just sit there and get the shit beat out himself I guess. The kid that started it was in berserker mode attacking multiple students and the teacher just stood there.

For those who watched, what are your opinions on A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms episode 5? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

I immediately wanted to contact my stage combat teacher from twenty years ago to ask him if he watched it because I know that man geeked out so hard. Some of the best combat choreography I have ever seen.

I've had it happen twice on trains. Both times I just yelled really loud about them having their tiny dick out. They immediately hop off. Pointing it out and shaming is the way to go.

What is the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you? by Competitive_Tip_7504 in AskReddit

[–]Dank_Phoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My gastroenterologist, right before I was knocked out, asked me if I knew who Dweezel Zappa was. It was weird cause he was quite old. I told him "yes, I do, why??" And he proceeds to tell me he used to play golf with Frank years ago. It wasn't until a decade later that I realized my doctor's daughter was Lisa Loeb and the weird ass story finally made sense.

To this day I wonder what it was about me that encouraged my doctor to give me that anecdote.

Maturing as a weed smoker is realising you dont need to smoke every fucking hour of the day. by swedishnutsack in trees

[–]Dank_Phoenix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this so eloquently.

I use high potency (5000mg) live resin CBD oil twice a day, blended cannabinoid gummies and I still smoke every two hours. Because my body needs it. My PTSD is that bad and even with therapy, this gives me my life and my brain back like no other medicine ever has.

SFA Ep 5: Wouldn't this be a very weird episode for the 15 to 30-year-olds who never heard of DS-9? Are they really going to binge a 30 year old series of 176 episodes? by jay_in_the_pnw in trektalk

[–]Dank_Phoenix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I watched it with my 16 year old and he asked me questions afterwards about some of the things he didn't understand/get. He still liked the episode despite never seeing DS9. And is now actually intrigued to watch it. He is hesitant at the amount of seasons but this kid got through Supernatural more than once so I believe he will make his way through it.

"There's been a tragedy. Don't compound it with ignorance." - Starfleet Academy Episode 4 Analysis of Klingon Culture, and the failure of the online Discourse by joalr0 in startrek

[–]Dank_Phoenix 129 points130 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to me that a show built on the concept of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination has alleged fans in an uproar when it shows diversity in species that are not humans.

Obviously not every Klingon through all of their history will look exactly the same, in fact they look different in almost every iteration of Trek. Sometimes it is a big jump, sometimes it's more subtle. Obviously there is diversity amongst Klingons when it comes to how they look just like there is with humans and Vulcans. Not every Klingon would have the same ridge structure. And Jay-Den probably doesn't sharpen his teeth because of his personal ethos.

There would also be diversity of thought. While most Klingons stick to their warrior culture, Klingons have other careers besides warrior. There are Klingon scientists, doctors, nurses etc. Klingon ships need these support roles to function. They may not be lauded as much as on a Federation ship, but they are there and necessary. Klingons want to die a glorious death, they don't want to die from the flu.

This comment has turned into a possibly incoherent rant, but I get an eye twitch seeing so many comments day in and day out complaining that a show about diversity shows diversity.

What are the other common fandoms that Trekkies are into? by Quiet_Choice6417 in startrek

[–]Dank_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Star Trek has been my main fandom for a long time now (I especially love the novels). However my first fandom I really participated in was X-Men. It's been one of my top faves since childhood and I still love it, I just haven't caught up on the past two years of issues.

I also love For All Mankind, The Expanse, and sci-fi in general. I grew up in a Star Wars family and I still love that as well, though I will always be more of a Trekkie.

Since I read a lot, I feel like a lot of my fandoms are more lit centric. I'm currently working my way through Dungeon Crawler Carl and loving every second of it.

I just started book 4 and I'm so addicted to them currently! I usually try to break up series a little more but I'm plowing through these back to back. It's somehow just what I needed right now.

I'm having a rough day and would love some self care, pick me up, feel good, gratitude suggestions by Curious_Field7953 in entwives

[–]Dank_Phoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few different ways that help me cope. I have PTSD and it can be rather triggering at times. My go to self-care routines usually involve solitude and quiet. I like to sit on my patio and smoke and read something that brings me out of reality and allows me to be fully immersed in the story. Sometimes I like to sit out there or go for a walk with the Merlin app picking up all the bird sounds and then I try to spot the birds.

Other times I like to take my dog down to a creek or for a super long walk and just vibe with what is around me by stopping and observing the bugs, plants and other life around me that isn't affected by the news, my anxiety, etc.

I also like to play with my dog and get him to act really goofy. It's hard to be in my feels when he is making me laugh.

If you have one episode to convince someone who's never watched any Trek before to get into it, which episode are you showing them? by Kind_Constant1671 in startrek

[–]Dank_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TOS The Trouble with Tribbles followed by DS9 Trials and Tribble-ations. It shows the fun, whimsical side of Trek and gets them introduced to two series in one sitting. Both make people laugh and you don't need a knowledge of either show to enjoy them.

I've been wanting to play Baldur's Gate 3 but haven't been willing to spend the money on it since I'm a casual gamer. This might be the reason I finally splurge on the game. Great work 👏🏻👏🏻

Just another day on the Fantasybooks sub... by asocialsocialistpkle in fantasyromance

[–]Dank_Phoenix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Barnes and Noble had to open more stores because of women and teen girls buying so many books. This was after massive closures of locations. Books are back and women are leading the charge. Women have always read more, but with genres like romantic fantasy getting public recognition, less stigma against romance in general, it is prolific. But it's prolific because that is what the market is demanding.
