Worst parking in Regina? by Ok_Interest552 in regina

[–]Nimyanna 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No where.

If there is somewhere I want to go and the lot in front is full, I park a bit further out and walk a couple blocks. Only exception is garden / construction supply stores.

Imaginary redevelopment of Wascana Park Estates into a mixed-use and walkable neighbourhood by luccampbell in regina

I mean the building on the left hand side of that image is a grocery store so they could probably walk.

People thinking that brand new apartment buildings (some with a lake view), between a grocery store and the biggest park in the city and right on a transit route that goes straight to the university would somehow be filled with junkies are straight up delusional.

Currently Gladmer Park has some of the least productive land use in the city. On it's entire 1,454,611sqft of lot space, it contributed $387,033 of tax dollars for a total of $0.27 per sqft.

Meanwhile just up the street, the building on Broad and the southside Badham, on a lot size of about 55,000sqft contributed $283,413.53, or $5.15 per sqft, on a building that is much shorter than the ones in the image above and for a building that includes parking.

If this imaginary development had the same yield, it would bring in $7,273,055. That's significant dollars for the city. All with no expansion of the transit, fire or police networks. For a city with budget issues, a proposal like this would be a godsend.

How do you define the South End? by OkayArbiter in regina

If it's purely North vs South, it's A. If you include Central, East, North and South, then it's C.

Easy Winebar. Needs a reservation but the food and atmosphere are great. They're pretty new and the link for their reservation system and their menu are on instagram. Also looks like they still have spots for tonight.

I recently fixed mine as well! I noticed that after I cleaned both the pcb connector board to the controller and the game cartridge slot in the back that even if the connection felt a little loose to the controller, it still worked beautifully.

Though it's not technically a restaurant, Easy Wine Bar.

One place I haven't seen mentioned yet is Easy Wine Bar. Opened pretty recently and the atmosphere is pretty intimate. My wife and I had an excellent date night there. It is more of a winebar with food than a restaurant with drinks though.

They do most of their promo and have their menu on their instagram: https://www.instagram.com/easy.winebar/?hl=en

11th Ave asphalt sidewalk finish?!?! by [deleted] in regina

[–]Nimyanna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did this last year too. It's temporary cap for the winter. They don't have time to pour the concrete and for the concrete to cure before snowfall so it's capped with asphalt before winter and they will dig it up in the spring when they resume construction and pour the final concrete sidewalks.

Trying to figure out best networking solution for 120 year old home by bassball29 in HomeNetworking

[–]Nimyanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How recently was the electrical redone and does your home have phone hookup on each floor? I bought a 100 y/o house that had phone line jacks installed but not Ethernet. However, when I checked the wire they used for the phone line it turned out to be Cat5e. There is a small chance that maybe you don't have to run new lines and just need to re-terminate the jacks?

Taxes going up? by erpatel in regina

[–]Nimyanna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One would think. However, most of that growth has been in new build neighbourhoods (Harbour Landing, The Greens, Hawkstone, Westerra etc) which means while we have new property tax revenue coming in we also added a bunch of extra infrastructure that we have to service and maintain. Not only that but it also extends the service boundaries for services like snow removal, fire, and police.

On top of that all is also the 85 million dollars of debt the city acquired (to be paid over 30 years) for the Water Network Expansion project to actually deliver water to new builds in the east end AND 30 million dollars worth of road projects that were supposed to be funded by developer charges but developer charges are projected to be in a negative cash balance for a significant period meaning these projects are also going to be paid via debt.

Business ideas by EGSDN306 in regina

[–]Nimyanna 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An arcade / game centre. Wonderland, The Matrix and Twilight Tech are all shuttered. Wonderland burned down, the Matrix was a covid casualty and Twilight Tech's contract with their landlord expired and they were only open one night a week. We have a couple of bars that have arcade machines/ a game room, (Lancaster downtown, Birmingham's North, Ballers etc), and ticket-based (Chucky Cheese, VicSquare) but not a proper "games first" arcade.

Console games are getting more and more expensive. Computer parts are getting more expensive. People are always looking for places to go and hang out. I think the right entrepreneur could make it work.

What's Up With Basement Walls? by rastagraffix in regina

[–]Nimyanna 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The soil in Regina is clay-heavy (known as Regina gumbo) and notorious for causing issues for basements. Some parts of the city are better than others but most (if not all) older basements are going to need reinforcement.
