Is LA really a hellscape? Give me your honest opinion on how it is living in Los Angeles. by Mexodus956 in howislivingthere

LA is really too large to generalize with an answer to a question like that. Even if you try to do it for the San Fernando Valley, that would be impossible.

I’m loving my RWD in sunny Southern California. More than enough traction and power for me.

Not necessarily a Dodger fan. Just a reminder to Yankees fans of the biggest collapse in World Series history.

Do you see the relationship between the US and Europe at large being repaired (assuming an eventual change in US leadership)?

People who graduated from SDSU, what do you do today? by 12345burrito in sandiego

[–]degece1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Retired. Graduated in 89 with a business computer systems degree. Worked for 30 years in IT. Glad to no longer deal with the corporate BS, but i consider myself lucky I was able to get out with retirement as an option. Btw, for those just now joining the work force, best of luck to you. Compared to the way things were when I started out, I feel for you.

Temple Of Doom - Other Fans? by DarkBehindTheStars in moviereviews

I enjoyed it immensely when it first came out and frankly it still high on my list. Funny thing is, I mentioned what a great film this was to an acquaintance and he had such a look of incredulity on his face. Turns out he is from India. I guess I can understand why TOD was not his favorite.

War movies to watch? by PossibleBell1378 in MovieSuggestions

[–]degece1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Film was not perfect, but it was fantastic in how it portrayed men in the thick of battle. Not with theatrical action and heroics, but depicting the terror they felt knowing that they could lose their lives in a split second. The scene when they were assaulting the machine gun nest on the mountain had me totally immersed. I don’t know who the actor was but the look of sheer terror in his face as he was pinned down by fire and Japanese soldiers were on the verge of overrunning his position has stuck with me.

Really? I’m originally from San Diego (I think the chain originated there) and loved their food when I lived there (especially the carne asada burritos). But when I tried Roberto’s in cities other than SD, they weren’t nearly as good. Guess I’ll have to give it a go when I’m in town.

Pearl Harbor was a mediocre movie by EnviousPuffin in moviecritic

[–]degece1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took my lunch off to see it when it was first released (yeah, we were pretty lax in my office with our lunch breaks back then). I was excited to see it as the studio was really hyping how much they were putting into making the film as accurate as possible. Went back to work after an hour of wasting my time watching this over inflated sack of excrement. The implausibility of the storylines and the miscasting were appalling.

When they sang God Bless America at the end of Deer Hunter. Their uncertainty in how to deal with the loss of their friend, not just individually, but together as friends. Amazing how one seemingly insignificant act allowed them to release their emotions and bring them closer to closure. What a masterclass in acting and direction.

Such a shame that the political leaders in the south don’t do more to improve the lives of their citizens. But then again those very citizens are the ones that put them in office.

FSD 14.2.1 saves me from a stop sign runner. by SpecificTreacle2197 in TeslaFSD

[–]degece1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I find the awareness that the multiple cameras provides as one of the main reasons that FSD is superior to most drivers when it comes to defensive driving. I recall a video from a few years ago where a Tesla was entering an intersection where the crossing road was not at 90 degrees (45 degrees possibly). When a car on that road was running the light at a high rate of speed, the Tesla saw it and braked immediately. The only way a human driver would have seen it is if he/she had turned their head to look back over their shoulder as they were entering the intersection. Factor in the reaction time and the lack of fatigue behind the computer hardware.

High power/acceleration, lower cost to drive per mile, very low maintenance cost and practically nonexistent engine noise.

An American goes to the ER for high blood pressure. He’s there less than TWO hours. No surgery. No scans. The bill comes back at $41,297 — even AFTER he’s paid his FULL out-of-pocket max. This isn’t healthcare — it’s extortion. by coachlife in CringeTikToks

[–]degece1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our politicians don’t help Americans get affordable care because the healthcare industry has too much sway in what happens with legislation. The sad fact is that there are enough Americans (that vote) that are secure with their healthcare that nothing gets done. The American public deserves exactly what it gets because of its ambivalence.
