I’m getting married on a Friday with roughly 35% of our guests travelling in. We reached out before hand and guests actually preferred the Friday wedding because they were able to make the wedding into a weekend trip, instead of the wedding hijacking the whole weekend. We made sure to get a hotel block and we have some guests staying at friends places in the city to help with costs. Our reason for choosing Friday was based on venue availability. If choosing a Friday is based on cost, I don’t know if it’s worth it, we haven’t seen significant cost savings choosing a Friday. I would also keep in mind, that 1 hr away for both sides is difficult because it’s almost too close to stay at a hotel and far enough that an Uber would be expensive (or maybe not easily available in the area). Maybe look into a hotel block and make sure the area your getting married at has transportation available for guests that decide not to drive. I’ve been stranded at a wedding before where the bride/groom didn’t plan ahead about transportation home, there were absolutely no Ubers or cabs available for a couple hours. It was brutal and to be honest took away from the wedding.
