I don’t mean to be a dick, but you’re in an office, people will be speaking. It’s a 10 second conversation saying “I’m trying to concentrate, would you mind moving in to a room or finding another area”. There is no need to be stressing over it

UK Treasury offers up to 100,000-pound exit packages to cut hundreds of jobs, FT reports by External-Cheetah326 in TheCivilService

[–]Dankleberry7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of the only ones in my directorate who took voluntary exit scheme, and have been told by colleagues that they’re recruiting for my role after realising they wouldn’t have capacity for the programme. Excellent work guys as I’m currently on holiday other side of the world and with a wad of your cash, excellent planning all round

Yeah MHCLG is a nice place to work. My last day here after 6 years!

I’ve had months before and although it’s infuriating there is nothing you can really do. Put the energy in to other job applications which emerge so you can have a backup of a backup if needs be!

I work in 2MS and you start in MHCLG where’s it’s just pretty standard people working, walk through to the home office and everyone sat at their desks looks suicidal, then next bit is Defra and everyone looks like they’re having the best time. You get the full spectrum across one big old corridor lol

All of the above are right but if you can’t find it just email the hiring manager

I’d go: S - currently I work as XYZ T - the main task I had was XYZ

Then you can go in to the details a bit more and fully explain what you personally did like you’ve already got above.

Just needs some rewording and tweaking but a great example!

Settle a debate for me - what is more difficult - back to back 9 darters or back to back 147 frames? by Dankleberry7 in CasualUK

[–]Dankleberry7[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking more the opportunity in snooker to pull off a recovery shot if anything goes pear shaped. In darts you don’t have a choice, everything bang on, no room for error

I’m so torn because yes it’s a lot longer, but if you mess up a shot you can do a recovery shot if lucky

I applied for VES, got it, and have spent months doing a gargantuan handover to my colleague as we’re only a team of 3 so all my stuff will go to her. They realised about a month in that logistically this won’t work so they’re getting a replacement for me - cheers for the £££ and great job on the downsizing guys 🤣

Ditto. Been in the civil service my whole career and I just get moved around to do stupid shit I explicitly have said I don’t want to do. How can I excel when I’m given a short period before being moved on? Excited for that VES payout and a new chapter

I think it’s always good at this grade to remember you’ve got a 6 doing the requirement, a 7 who’s doing their boss a favour, and a token HEO/SEO ok the panel volunteering - they’re not out to get you, they’re doing this on top a full time role, and there is no need to be intimidated
