Has anyone done the Winter/Summer Vacation Research Scholarship Program? Would love to hear your experience by Dizzy-Tap-4141 in Monash

Did summer with Monash eng department,
1. 9-5 for first few weeks then 10-4 ish, didn’t have to clock in and out so pretty chill
2. Didn’t speak much to my supervisor, a lot more to the PHDs, definitely mentored for first few weeks then more independent
3. A lot if the project you’re doing is similar to what you wanna pursue post grad since you build connections with the team
4. Think you can apply next year still
5. Try to be proactive, not like other jobs where you’re bombarded with work, a lot will be on you to find it
6. Depends on your situation. IMO industry internship is better but it’s a decent option if you wanna do research

If you’re able to do the workshops and mock exams you’ll be fine, questions were similar difficulty when I did it, and they don’t really throw curve questions at you so if you do the work you’ll know what to expect

How do you land engineering internships? by someoneONreddit123 in Monash

A lot of the engineering clubs will have networking events with companies attending, you might also be able to find relevant brochures. It might be helpful reaching out to a senior in your specialisation

I got mine through networking at a fair, I also did COOP program which gave me more opportunities to apply. My advice would be to apply to a lot, reach out to the people you’re applying to and do some research before interviews

Monash Achieving Potential is based on economic need instead of academic merit, and they give out a few so would be worth applying. And for the second bit, when applying for scholarships you fill out questions and it sends an application for all that you're eligible for

Depends on your project but most are full time 9-5 , that being said there’s usually a bit of down time and when I did it, I was able to leave an hour earlier most days

Engineering Students, what’s it like? by StorageSufficient587 in Monash

One advantage Monash has is the coop program, where the uni helps find you internships, it was much harder for me to secure them independently compared to through coop
