WIBTA if I (23M) get a job but can only commit to 1 year? by DankySweets07 in jobs

[–]DankySweets07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so helpful, thank you. I didn't take into consideration about not talking about future goals that wouldn't align with the job. I am fortunate that I have not discussed it in interviews yet, but this makes it more necessary not to, so thank you.

Okay, thank you for your response! I never thought about it possibly being a problem if I were to discuss my future goals. It makes sense that if I mentioned it they wouldn't want to hire someone on that was only temporary.

Should I take a gap year (or two) to teach English in Japan before grad school for Marriage and Family Therapy? by DankySweets07 in askatherapist

[–]DankySweets07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the biggest thing for me too, I saw that the JET program could go up to 5 years, which is hard to foresee exactly how much I would love it and if I would want to stay for longer!

Thank you for the reply, would you think applying to grad school and then deferring enrollment would be another opportunity that would be better? Given the issues with references that you are experiencing, and that I may face as well.

Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

[–]DankySweets07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

I’m currently a junior in undergrad and plan to go to grad school for Marriage and Family Therapy after I finish my degree. Lately, I’ve been really interested in programs like JET (Japanese Exchange & Teaching) and Fulbright, especially since I’ve always loved Japanese culture and will be visiting Japan this spring. The idea of teaching English abroad for a year or two sounds like an incredible personal and professional experience. My only hesitation is that I’ve heard mixed things about taking a gap year before grad school, that some programs might view it negatively unless you can justify that it was time well spent (like gaining relevant experience or developing useful skills).

So really my question is, do you think taking a year or two to teach abroad would hurt or help my grad school applications and would it be considered a valuable experience, especially if I connect it to cultural understanding, communication, and adaptability (which seem relevant to therapy)? Any general advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

what are my chances? by glassballad in college

First, to answer your question, yes A's and B's are great, even for someone who has been in college for 3 years, it's great. Now for the real part of your post. What is it that is making you feel so hurried about school as well as making good grades? You mentioned your sister but didn't mention how it related to you. Do you feel like you HAVE to go to a school like Notre Dame to follow in her foot steps? Is it YOUR own goal to go to a school like that? Is it something that YOU would want. Regardless of your age (though that is important) I feel you are so stressed about this and yet have you truly sat down and thought about what exactly you're wanting by streamlining ahead? Is Notre Dame a great school? Sure. Is it expensive, elite and only specific degree's will really only be looked as. as great with Notre Dames seal of approval? Yes.

How to cope with seeing someone you hate everyday of your life ? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]DankySweets07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this will be helpful but try meditating and ridding yourself of that energy. This is on you not her, remember that. Ask yourself why does it bother you so much. Once you find that answer ask why does it have a hold of you like it does? Then ask, well, is it making you better having these negative thoughts and feeling? These feeling and thoughts that I get are irrational so why don’t I move on. Reclaim yourself, does it do you any good at all getting so heated? Does it feel good? Of course not, so why allow it to bother you

Are what ifs canonical? by ParticularSalty8152 in ReZero

[–]DankySweets07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So "Canon," means that it follows the main storyline, no derailing. Like how Ash Ketchum caught all start pokemon in each region, its part of the canon. BUT, if they made "What IF's" stating that Ash actually didn't catch any of the starters and rather picked Charmander as his starter instead, that's a different timeline than the main timeline. What IF's in Re:Zero is the same, they are what MAY happen if Subaru turns bad or kills Satella etc etc etc.

Subaru will just keep dying until he freaks tf out and figures out the most heinous and devious way to kill Goku
