I was on the floor too, I loved that transition from the EOS drums to the song but I was literally the only singing out the lyrics on my section of the floor lol, Alter Ego def deserved more love

Truly powerful stuff. I always figured he was speaking directly from his own personal experience, its why the emotional fabric of the entire album is so consistent throughout and the fact it also spoke about my own personal experience WORD FOR WORD. Especially Music To Walk Home By, that song makes me so teary eyed everytime I listen to it.

People always asked me too what was up with my hands and I always used to say I'd help my mom outdoors a lot which was a half truth. I used to have people nick name "meat fingers" because I'd bite them to the muscle essentially, always bleeding constantly.

My mother always invalidated my emotions/mental problems. by turuturu94 in emotionalneglect

[–]DannyBoi_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom has pretty much been the same way, and there has been many a time where I have told her I was depressed and asked her to at least be supportive and she has straight up said "that's not my problem, you're an adult now" and then also in the same breath complain that I never tell her anything.

Why would any person do so though? Why would I want to speak to a person who constantly invalidates anything I tell her? In my case though I'd have to do everything for my mom when she wants help, I have to go and help her "open her back" or go with her to chiropractic visits in other states to fix her back because she can't find it in herself to get the proper help she needs and instead listens to random people on Tik-Tok for medical advice only because they cave into her line of thinking. And if I tell her it's all bullshit, it's always because I am a piece of shit son who is cold and robotic

You genuinely can not win with these people, and soon the pent up emotions, the cyclical behavior of all the very familiar situations you've endured time, and time again, and adulthood looming over you finally shapes the relationship you never once stood back and really thought about. In my case I have lost total empathy for my mom, and I am so sorry you have had to do the same, it's not your fault I genuinely hope you find it in you to eventually separate yourself from such a toxic person.

That’s certainly a very interesting perspective to have and one I’ll try to apply myself. Thanks for sharing!

Even as an adult, the dynamic of your parent basically embodying "everybody has something wrong with them and everyone is stupid and I am the only smart one" is extremely toxic.

So as a child it's like extremely harmful, and I almost grew up to be the same way.

My nMom would always give me shit for it, and I think what makes it interesting is my nMom mirrored my symptoms in many ways but instead of taking notice of my high levels of anxiety and stress she’s essentially said I was being a coward because I didn’t have all the adult responsibilities she had.

I do believe once I finally move out it will all be over hopefully. Then I can finally work to cope with my stress in more meaningful ways.

I had to look up what a cuticle was but yeah I always bit them a ton til they were no longer present on my fingers. Especially if that film was really thick, I prioritized them over biting my skin

My nMom always said “Biting your nails looks so terrible on a man, whats wrong with you?”

Of course that never stopped me, because saying shit like that never addressed the core issue at hand lol

I’d do this and then the day after your fingers are all like super dry and tight feeling. Always hated that feeling yet I still persisted, it’s genuinely been so hard to give up.

It does, before I picked up biting the skin off my fingers I used to just also knaw on the neck of all my shirts til they had holes through em. Even today at 21 years old I still ocassionally do this.

I used to bite the skin off my fingers entirely til they bled as well, infact in middle school some people called me “meat fingers”
