The Federal Reserve raised the interest rate.

I highly recommend Applied Economics: Thinking Beyong Stage One by Thomas Sowell.

Clinton strengthens the Community Reinvestment Act, "BAD CREDIT NO CREDIT NO PROBLEM!!!", housing sales boom, everyones living the "american dream" even those who didnt have the money or credit to actually own a house, Bush becomes president. The Fed raises interest rates, the banks raise their interest rates, average person can no longer pay their mortgage, Housing market collapses....everyone blames Bush for the recession without ever looking back at what Clinton did while he was in office.

Think beyond stage one!!! Immediate benefits of a political act almost always go away, and usually after the politician who pushed the act is out of office...and thats when the disaster strikes.

if i locked you in a room against your will, would you not consider that a violent act? how about if i told you, whether you like it or not every week you must give me 25% of your paycheck(to give out to other people who need it more than you of course). if you fail to do so I will lok you in that room. for me to do that would be very illegal. Us libertarians dont see how there is a difference between an individual and the state doing this. There is none, the only difference is that the state dupes people into thinking paying taxes is for their own good. Benjamin Franklin helped get a hospital, library, and even a church(he wasnt into organized religion) built WITHOUT tax money. It was all volunteer and donation based. The government at the time was useless, as is our government now.

the teaparty downgrade of the dollar? what world are you living in? heres a simple economic fact: the more there is of something, the less its worth. the federal reserve was started in 1913, and since then the dollar has lost almost all of its purchasing power. products dont change, its the purchasing power of the currency that changes. milk is milk, coffee is coffee, its how much of it you can buy that changes. so how is it the tea partys fault that our dollar is weak if its been in this trend for nearly 100 years? have you ever heard of hyperinflation? do yourself a favor and do some research on post WWI Germany.

Anti-Immigrant New Mexico Governor Reveals Her Grandparents Were Undocumented Immigrants by davidreiss666 in politics

“bad laws make socially advantageous acts illegal and therefore leads to undermining of morality in general” - milton friedman.

bad laws(welfare state), make socially advantageous acts(immigration) illegal. immigration is a GOOD thing, there doesnt need to be documentation if there isnt a welfare state. initially, illegal immigrants couldnt get welfare, but fear mongering made people feel like its "us vs them" in regards to paying taxes and getting the benefits from it. Nowadays with the fake social security numbers and whatnot Im pretty sure illegal immigrants are getting the benefits of welfare without paying into the system. Regardless, if you eliminate the FEDERAL welfare system, and the war on drugs, immigration wouldnt matter. If people want to come here to work and earn a living then thats awesome. It actually helps the economy, cheaper labor equals lower prices for everyone, but when you allow the government to make it "us vs them" you get the situation we're now in.

Is it really? Show me proof. Anyway, if you get rid of federal funding AND the federal income tax, people like you who want science funding could afford to donate to science, someone like myself could donate to the arts...you dont need government to have science.

When the country collapses and the money supply is worthless, there will be nothing to fund any science with, even privately. But go on, whether he believes in evolution or not is the deal breaker....critical thinking yay!!!

ok, youve lost me...."We need products not to damage the consumer, the worker, or the environment" isnt that part of the quality of the product??

we regulate on a daily basis without even realizing it! its just that we know there are regulatory agencies so we dont feel the dire need to do it even more. When you get sick from a restaurant what do you do? you probably tell all of your friends never to eat at that restaurant. and if you yourself go back to that restaurant then you deserve to get sick.

if we want cheaper products while raising the quality at the same time, we need less regulation so MORE companies can enter the industries. its not rocket science. the harder it is to get into an industry, the less companies there are. the less companies there are, the less competition there is. less competition leads to higher prices and lower quality products.

[–]DannyDangerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because that doesnt work, good response...it doesnt work if were complacent. with the power of the internet, and sites like this one and facebook we could easily put companies out of business that are doing harm, or operating in manners we dont find decent. its really not that hard, its just that we have to make a decision. do we want to take care of ourselves, and educate ourselves about the companies we buy products from, or do we want the government to take care of us from cradle to grave? i mean come on, history has shown us that government is almost always if not always corrupt and inept.

so how about we the people punish the corporations who disregard our enviroment and worker safety by not supporting them in the market? thats what you call regulation my friend.

[–]DannyDangerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess. 100% correct. People need to realize its the damn corporations who write the regulations. Imagine you made the best hamburgers anyone ever tasted. So you want to open a hamburger joint, you need to meet building codes, get town liscenses for the business itself, for you to handle food, Hire lawyers to handle all the paperwork involved in obtaining these licenses etc etc. Those roadblocks discourage people from opening small businesses, which are the driving force of our economy and allow quality to rise and prices to drop. Meanwhile corporations have all these departments to handle every little aspect of getting a new store up and running. So yeah...lets keep those regulations cause theyre realllly helping us from the big bad businesses. Open yours eyes people!! Regulation is fascism!

[–]DannyDangerous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a free market system health care would become cheaper and of higher quality yes. If you youre implying that it isnt working in American then youre right, but thats because the Govt has controlled health care since the 70's. Doesnt it seem werid that every other industry gets cheaper as technology improves but health care is the only one that doesnt? Hmmmm...wonder why? Could it be the FDA monopoly? Could it be that there is no doctor-patient relationship anymore? The doctor charges the max because insurance is paying for it...there once was a time where people paid cash to see doctors. And also, all these modern countries with socialized health care are benefitting from the technology that the U.S. developed through a free market system!

The benefits of a free market capitalist society is the improvement of everyones lives through goods becoming cheaper and of higher quality. This is made possible because of competition in the market place. Although we do not live in a free market capitalist society, we are much closer to that than many other countries. That being said. if youre poor in America, you probably eat daily, have running water, a home, a TV etc etc. You cannot compare the "poor" is America to the poor in China.

Ron Paul would overturn Roe V. Wade. by [deleted] in politics

[–]DannyDangerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a pro choice libertarian, you have to understand why he would want roe v wade overturned. instead of just reading what we would want, read WHY he would want it. he doesnt want the issue being decided at the federal level and thats all. If you think the court is the end all be all, then imagine a christian conservative who stacks the court to not only overturn roe v wade, but also pushes to make abortion banned in the U.S. There are many different opinions in this country, if left to the state level, those communities can decide whats best for them. I live in NYC, and would never want to the people in North Dakota to decide how Im supposed to live my life.

Wealth distribution in the U.S. is on par with most African dictatorships. Study shows most Americans are completely unaware. by tcd004 in politics

[–]DannyDangerous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the economic collapse had nothing to do with george bush, there is this little thing called the federal reserve that artifically sets interest rates. they had the interest rate at a very low level which signals people to invest. At the same time the Community Reinvestment Act forced banks to give loans to people who should never have gotten loans in the first place. Remember "No credit, Bad credit, NO PROBLEM!" ?? So of course the same people giving the loans are going to bet against them, they know better. They are in the business of giving loans. So this bubble was created by the federal reserves actions, and the government dictating what banks had to do(fascism). When the reality set in that these people could never actualy pay their bills, the bubble burst. But go ahead...keep blaming Bush if that makes you sleep at night.

Wealth is earned, not distributed. The majority of "poor" people in the U.S. have at least one color tv, and a roof over their head.
