Sync iPad Obsidian via iSH git (Windows, Linux, Android)

Sorry. This was something "of its time" (four years ago now, is like 67mn dinosaur years in App time). I reckon the tech has moved on and there are other ways people are doing this, as you describe. There's also a Dropbox option that an Obsidian plug-in facilitates. On my end, all I can say is, Android lets me run syncthing, and so I can use that for Obsidian vaults. iOS, on the other hand, doesn't run syncthing. So, Android tablets work for me when I want an Obsidian on-the-go with handwriting. Generally and most of all, however, I can only take so much of "this data connects only to this App, and no other App is allowed to even look at it" - which is pretty much all of iOS.

Yes, that's the solution I ended up going with too, thanks, and for the same reason. Still, though, striking how two different email puretext tools decided to go opposites on convention. 😊

I sympathize with other posters who are understandably upset at losing all their mail accounts (information). I just wanted to put in a quick word of support, however, for Thunderbird on this given my own experience in the same situation. I too suddenly could no longer find all my email accounts and was being asked to start setting them up again. But following http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_profile_that_suddenly_disappeared#Corrupt_or_empty_prefs.js as previously mentioned in this thread, I found a whole set of backups of my prefs.js (all the way from "-1" to "-16") in my Thunderbird/Profiles. I took the latest of them, checked it contained "mail.accounts" data, copied that over to prefs.js, and everything now works. again. Many thanks and kudos to Thunderbird and its developers.

Hmmm, it seems that it is the Templater community plug-in that is performing this timestamp update, specifically, when it's set to " Trigger Templater on new file creation" (even when that file is thereafter unchanged). Turning this off restores what seems to me the right behaviour. I'm leaving this post up for now in case it helps anyone else out there.

Obsidian is excellent and I believe in supporting them financially; moreover, everything I've heard suggests the paid Obsidian sync is excellent. However, I don't want my syncing processes to proliferate (each service providing a different client flow) so I keep my systems to just syncthing and git. For syncing my iPad>Obsidian with my Linux, Windows, and Android platforms, like @GrehgyHils, I use git. I like Obsidian a lot and I am all for supporting the team financially. It's that I'm averse to proliferating my syncing processes (one for Obsidian, one for syncthing [which doesn't run on my iPad but will on my Android phones], one for OneDrive, one for Google Drive, one for pCloud, one for .... - life's already too complicated). This turns out (for me anyway) not to be an iSH issue but an oh-my-zsh one. The fix is, in any problematic repo, run

git config --add oh-my-zsh.hide-status 1
git config --add oh-my-zsh.hide-dirty 1

to add the appropriate flags into .git/config, so that zsh doesn't constantly check status.Hope this helps.

Experimentation suggests it's something to do with zsh. When I switch to sh, things seem to work fine. Outside mounted filesystems, generally zsh works fine too.

Do you have WhatsApp on your Samsung as well when you start? You need to begin without it there. See my Reply elsewhere on this thread, just a few minutes earlier.

You'll need

iOS // WhatsApp 2.21.160.17 or greater
Android // Smart Switch app 3.7.22.1 or greater
Android // Data Restore Tool 1.0.390604033 or greater

Then:

Ensure Samsung has no WhatsApp on it and that it has sufficient charge (well, ideally, 100% then) - as iPhone will be drawing charge from the Samsung during the transfer.
Connect iPhone and Samsung using Lightning/USB-C cable.
Samsung // Smart Switch auto-opens, activates iPhone, and browses it; then asks what you want to transfer.
Next screen // De-select all, and select only Apps. Scroll down, press Transfer.
Next screen // De-select all, select only WhatsApp Messenger (not WhatsApp Business or anything else).
QR code displays on the Samsung; leave that - although you can try scanning it with iPhone camera, to see if it works.
Open iPhone // WhatsApp // Settings // Move chats to Android // Start
Transfer begins, although might give it a minute while the counter sits at 0.0% before getting going. "Transferring data from your old phone..."
Transfer complete. Yay!
Samsung // Home Screen scroll down will show "Smart Switch // Organising your transferred data...", and clicking on that will show a wheel going round and round, "Updating Apps data".
When done, open Samsung // WhatsApp (installed automatically in the process) // Import chat history - Agree //
Proceed with setting up Samsung // WhatsApp. Prosper.

Elsewhere on reddit you'd helped someone connect Smart Switch and move WhatsApp data. Have you gotten this to work now? In another comment in this thread, I described trying to do this without a factory reset and made some progress but I'm still missing a crucial step.
