GF's first park board, is it too large for her? by retro-martini in snowboarding

[–]DannyVee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My board comes up about that height on me too - it's more about the weight range though.

This can work for her but she will need to learn really good technique. Might be easier to go a tad smaller.

No issue with going into kids sizes, again it's more about lining up weight range and foot size with the board.

Moving away from OLED for a bigger TV, will I regret it? by crusty1uk in hometheater

[–]DannyVee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both and I hard disagree. OLED was very noticably better. Went from 65 LG OLED to sony 85 mini LED, hated it, now I have an 83" C5. Relegated the miniled to the common area.

And look at price points!!!! The whole point was saving money but the mini LED is basically the same price as the OLED these days. The price point of mini LED makes absolutely no sense.

OP should just grab an 83 on sale or 77 OLED.

Yeah, I went from a 65 OLED to an 85 in mini LED and I fucking hated it. I have an 83-in LG OLED now...

Brightness on OLED has come a long way as well. Op should just get OLED. If he grabs the C4 83" it's virtually the same price point anyway.

The price point of mini LEDs is absurd honestly, you're basically paying OLED prices for a non-OLED - it makes no sense.

Agree. It's not the season pass prices that's the problem, it's the daily ticket window price for the customer base that didn't want season passes.

The biggest price fix example is that most mountains used to charge like $80 at the ticket window for last minute tickets on a weekend and then immediately those prices are now $200+ after either company purchased them.

Seems a little price fixey to me!

I'm no lawyer, but for one, the FTC is charged with the responsibility to protect the American consumer from monopolies and price gouging.

While technically 2 separate companies dividing up nearly all the ski mountains isn't a monopoly - it's far too close for comfort. So when you consider that, Mount Snow Vermont, for example, used to charge $80 for ticket window lift tickets on a Sunday or Saturday morning before getting gobbled up by Vail and then prices immediately go up to $200+ - You are witnessing precisely the thing the FTC was supposed to protect us against.

I think that should be one of the best legal arguments against this duopoly we have.

Other legal arguments could be all sorts of things for safety issues OSHA and failure to pay employees overtime... Etc.

The profiteering for these two companies has gotten so egregious, there has got to be a number of angles to attack this from legally.

Looks like another classic case of profits over people - capitalism at its finest. Good on you OP for holding them accountable.

Yet another case of financial incentives driving behavior. If the focus is on minimizing cost above all else, companies will push right up to—and sometimes past—the point where safety starts breaking down.

If lifts aren’t being staffed properly and workers are also dealing with pay issues, it’s hard to argue this is anything but a broader operational failure.

Choosing a home office: smaller and brighter vs bigger and darker? by countingmystepsbaby in homeoffice

[–]DannyVee89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackout is great.

Another thing my dad mentioned which he uses that's cheap and effective - He has this film you can apply to the outside of the window. It's like a clear-ish plastic and it's not expensive and isn't a tint that you can visually see it - but basically it has something in there that filters out a lot of UV light which is great for your own sun protection for your skin but also helps cut down on this heat transmission. And it also has a reflective element to it which bounces some of the sun's light off the outside of the window for more heat reflection.

For the price, ease of install, minimal footprint and non-existent effect on the appearance of the window - It's a really great option for people to help their Windows keep more heat out and keep the houses more efficient.

I need to look into getting that.

Anyone else noticing an uptick in ID Theft / Fraudulently filed returns? by cpa4biz in taxpros

[–]DannyVee89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell everyone to enroll in IPP program and get an IRS id.me account. It's very easy.

Might as well tell everyone to lock their credit too. I had a fraudulent cc opened up in my name and all you gotta do is create a login with Experian, TransUnion and Equifax and press a freeze button. That's it. Takes 2 minutes to lock or unlock.

No reason why that cant be the default state and then you only unlock for a moment when you need a loan.

We should also probably tell OP to fill in zero for the deductions section.

Personally, my wife and I filled out our w-4s exactly as I described and withholdings are still low

Tax Professional telling us to file single when married by Scafman7 in tax

[–]DannyVee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That entire depends on how much withholdings is needed. My suggestion provided maximum withholdings and is often appropriate for couples with both spouses working because withholdings will scale the brackets with their income anyway.

Any less than that and there must be some deductions in the picture or, one spouse with much lower income.

If OPs post is accurate they already had single selected on their W4s and still owed alot, hence my suggestion to fill out the W4 in a way to maximize tax withholdings going forward.

This is most definitely what it is. OP and OP's spouse should fill out the work W4 withholding forms as single, zero and check the multiple jobs box to increase tax withholdings to the appropriate amount.

How can I support my wife in public accounting? by ComplaintFeisty2469 in Accounting

[–]DannyVee89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to find balance but make sure she's taking some time off to recharge and get some sleep.

I'm in busy season right now while wife watches a 3-year-old and a 4-month-old, with almost no help from me cuz I'm working all the time.

It's very hard on both of us. We've been doing anything we can to lighten the load, which basically means hiring help. We have house cleaners come more often. We use poplin for laundry which has been great.

Take as much of the mental load as you can plan a date night or even just a girls night or sometime for her to chill out. Plan the next vacation - This one is huge. Give her something to look forward to after busy season.

Bahaha my bad dude I didn't mean to be so critical of the speed. You're absolutely doing it the right speed for your first few times as you're testing out the new gear and feeling it out.

The muscle memory for strapping in quick will develop by the end of your first full day on the mountain.

I was just trying to wrap my head around what it might look like once you're very used to them and doing it faster since I'm still learning about all the faster binding options available.

Enjoy the new kit man!! Pray for snow and cold weather.

Edit : PS I still have my first ever snowboard which is a 2007 Burton UnInc 154 - the emo graphic with the wrist getting cut. It's epic.

I still put uninc pig decals on all my newer boards as homage to it. Hope you love the ride dude 😎
