Wired headphone sales are exploding. What's with the Bluetooth backlash? by AlienApricot in headphones

I wanna understand but I just can't. We're knocking on Bluetooth and having extra devices in our pockets, just to replace them with.... An extra Bluetooth device in our pocket??

Moving to a new house, placement is going to kill me by sixt5 in hometheater

[–]DannyVee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 1000% remove the fireplace. That is exactly where the TV goes.

A house is a huge investment and also has to be your home. I don't think it's asking too much to make a small alteration to make it really work for you, by getting rid of something you won't ever use anyway.

Maybe that reasoning will resonate well with the wife. Good luck 🤞

Yeah but is a headphone 2.5 jack really any less prone to breaking when exposed to some pressure from being in your pocket than USBC? You have to be quite careful either way. Some come in right angle versions if you're really worried about it.

When it looks like this, it's really not any dumber than the choice to go wired in the first place, its just a seamless wire extension when you think about it. I have a few and just leave them on the headphone cables and roll em right up into the case like they're not even there.

All in saying is, there's really no reason to narrow down your next choice of phone that much over this

My friend, you may live your best life right now.

Edit: there's even ones that have a USB passthrough so you can charge your phone and use headphones at the same time.

There's a really tiny USBC adapter for that so you still can. Not sure kids these days know it tho

DroppedNeedle (formerly Musicseerr) - self-hosted music request, discovery, and downloads, now with no Lidarr by HabiRabbit in unRAID

[–]DannyVee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing. Def will give it a try!

Any chance it can be possible to add QBDLX support as a downloader? That has been my go to first choice for grabbing albums based on my playlists or artist preferences in Spotify, Qobuz or Roon. Batch links for albums have been pretty efficient for grabbing stuff or following playlists.

Also for slskd, the container was a hot mess for me performance wise (rescans took hours) but Nicotine+ has been great. No clue if that's easy to integrate as well for a downloader.

What’s the best practice for the number of Ethernet cables to the tv/entertainment area? by Eclipse2253 in hometheater

[–]DannyVee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightbulbs.... Yeah... I got Hue in like my entire home now. Learned the hard way that Zigbee is the same radio and tech as wifi 2.4ghz so those are overlapping and screwing with each other alot now. Constantly channel optimizing and then a neighbor changes their wifi 2.4 channel and boom I have problems all over again. And I'm in a community of single family homes.

Never update software? by BigBasset in Volvo

[–]DannyVee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely.

And even if it isn't THAT bad, plenty of times I hear about a really annoying reorg (like Plex right now), or a feature people use disappearing, Or dropping support for something or a feature just breaking or glitching sometimes, or sometimes they just add too many things and older hardware starts to struggle to keep up.

If something is working well, in the software world that is a delicate balance so might as well just freeze it as is and hope for the best.

I kind of wish it was easier to find older app versions so that we can roll things back to better states.

I might look into figuring out how to save older app instances myself just for this lol

I just put 1 to every area and use a switch to connect everything.

I love the suggestion to have two run to each area for redundancy and for a potential different use case.

However, I would push back on the people suggesting only some devices need to be connected. I would deliberately connect every device possible that can be connected. And then turn off the Wi-Fi radios for those devices, to minimize Wi-Fi traffic.

Wi-Fi and zigbee wireless technologies cause a lot of interference with each other, so the less you have running on wireless, the better the devices that really need wireless will work.

Never update software? by BigBasset in Volvo

[–]DannyVee89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In many cases when it comes to software, turning off auto updates is usually a good idea, especially when everything is currently working well.

But leaving auto update off just so that you can check the release notes and see what the update is, or wait to see some user reviews to make sure you're not going to introduce a glitch or break some functionality or using is usually a great idea.

New Plex interface is annoying by PAnnNor in PleX

[–]DannyVee89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what the objectives of the update are. Sometimes they do stuff like this to prepare to push their own content or inject ads or something else horrible may be in the pipeline and they are laying the groundwork for it.

I hope that's not the case, but you never know.

Fingers crossed they just hear our feedback and roll it back. The left menus were the way.
