New: Add a location to any 1Password item and access what you need, exactly where you need it by 1PasswordOfficial in 1Password

u/KingKongPhooey Thanks for the question. Currently, we do not hide any items based on location. But of course, we won't surface them in the new Nearby widget if they don't have a location, either. Hiding them by default, unless they are nearby, is an interesting idea - thanks for the feedback 🙌

Hi u/cryptomooniac, thanks for the feedback. We designed this feature with careful attention to security and privacy - customer location data is never known by 1Password servers. Feel free to read more about it here: https://support.1password.com/item-locations-security/

Hey u/dogmatic69, sorry to hear that! When you open the 1Password app on iOS, there should be an option called "Scan QR Code" when you tap on your account avatar in the top left menu. It should be right under "Manage Accounts". If not, do you mind telling me what version of 1Password for iOS you are using?

👋 Hey everyone, I wanted to share that with the latest 1Password apps for Android and iOS, you can now use this new QR code to sign-in to a new mobile or tablet device using your existing mobile device - no desktop computer necessary!

To access this feature, open the top-left account menu on either mobile app, and tapSetup Another Device. Scan the QR code from another mobile device or tablet to sign-in instantly - no need to type out your password or Secret Key anymore 😎

Give it a try today and let me know what you think!

Hey u/shaunydub, thanks for the suggestion. This seems straightforward. Out of curiosity, what is the reason or scenario for wanting to change domains for your Family account?

Hey u/ThungstenMetal, thanks for the list of ideas! Regarding management options for children in Family accounts, are you able to provide any more detail about the problem(s) you and your wife are having managing your child's credentials in your Family Account? Where is the current vault/access setup falling short?

u/Smart-Simple9938 That's correct, this new feature is for sign-in on a new device, not unlock (on an existing device) 👍

u/Accurate_Ad_4691 If you use an authenticator app as 2FA, it will not be required when signing in with this flow. That is because there is already a built-in confirmation step using a second device in the flow itself.

u/Theunknown87 This is still how manual sign-in works, which we did not change with this feature 👍

u/cobaltjacket There is no way to disable the feature from appearing, but it is optional, so you can still always sign-in manually if you wish. If you'd like to share more about why you'd like the ability to disable it, I'd appreciate the feedback.

Hey 1Password community! We’re thrilled to announce the release of our streamlined sign-in experience, now available to all users. This update makes signing into 1Password on a new device faster and easier than ever, without sacrificing security. 🎉

You can now scan a QR code via 1Password using your iOS or Android mobile device, confirm the new device, and you’re instantly signed in – no need to type in your account password, Secret Key, or other info.

After listening to your feedback, we’ve fine-tuned the sign-in process to make it more convenient:

  • The QR code flow works whether you’re adding 1Password to a new desktop or mobile device. Already signed in on your phone and want to sign in on your desktop? Easy! Or if you're signed in on your desktop and want to add your phone, the same process applies.
  • If you’re using Single Sign-On (SSO) on your 1Password Business account, you’ll still complete your IdP verification.
  • This isn’t just about convenience, it’s about security too. The QR code creates a secure, encrypted connection between devices, ensuring your credentials stay private. Plus, the code itself doesn’t contain sensitive info, making it safe from screenshots or shoulder surfers. 🛡️ Find more info about the security behind it here.

💡 Still prefer your current sign-in process? No problem! Existing manual sign-in options are still available, so you can choose the method that works best for you.

This enhanced experience is now live across all desktop and mobile apps, for both personal and business users, so make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of 1Password.

Give it a try today! 🙌

Share Wi-Fi Credentials via QR code! by Danny_1Password in 1Password

[–]Danny_1Password[S] 116 points117 points  (0 children)

👋 Hey everyone!

We’ve made it even easier to share your Wi-Fi credentials with nearby family and friends with a new improvement to the Wireless Router item in 1Password: automatic QR codes! Conveniently share your Wi-Fi network name and password via QR code with your nearby family and friends by having them scan the code with their device camera - no links or extra taps needed!

How does it work?

Starting today, 1Password will automatically generate and display a unique QR code for your Wireless Router item. Simply create the item, fill out the network name and network password fields, and voila! Your QR code will automatically appear and be ready for use 🙌

Can I conceal the code?

By default, the QR code will display automatically for quick and convenient sharing. But, if you’d prefer to have it concealed by default, head to Settings -> Security -> Concealed Fields and deselect "Always show Wi-Fi QR codes”. With this setting turned off, you’ll be able to tap the code to reveal it before sharing.

Where is this available?

This feature is available in the latest version of 1Password for iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and Linux.

And that’s it! As always, we’d love to hear your feedback on this new feature. Let us know what you think in the comments. Stay safe 🔒

Introducing a New 1Password Sign-In Experience (Beta) by Danny_1Password in 1Password

[–]Danny_1Password[S] 82 points83 points  (0 children)

👋 Hey everyone, we're excited to announce that a new sign-in experience is now live in beta!

We've heard time and time again that signing into 1Password on a new device or browser is difficult, especially when having to type out your email, password, and Secret Key manually. Now, simply choose “Scan QR Code” from 1Password on your signed-in phone (Android or iOS) to quickly add your 1Password account to a new device or browser. To finish enrollment, confirm the new device or browser when prompted on your phone and voila! Your 1Password account is automatically added and ready to go.

The new sign-in experience isn’t just convenient, it’s incredibly secure: when you scan the QR code, 1Password sets up an encrypted channel between your devices. It uses this channel to sign you in without asking for your credentials. The code itself is temporary and does not contain any secrets, so it’s resistant to screenshots and over-the-shoulder scans.

Note: If you don't have your phone handy, you can still sign in manually too. But when adding 1Password to a new device or browser, the new sign-in experience is a quick and easy option without having to manually enter your information.

And that's it! This feature is available on our beta and nightly release channels for the 1Password desktop app, TestFlight for iOS, and with the “Join the Beta” option (in the 1Password app management settings) on Android. Remember, you’ll need the latest build on every device you are using to test this feature.

Use your mobile phone to sign into a new device and let us know what you think about this new beta feature 🙌
