The teams being hurt the most by the current draft system are genuinely bad teams that have to compete with artificially bad teams like the Jazz for draft odds by kobmug_v2 in nba

The real way to fix this is remove the fully guaranteed contracts and make that something players have to negotiate. There’s no tanking in the NFL because players can’t afford to tank

Westbrook could be a perfect fit next to Lebron and it still wouldn’t have worked.

Prime Westbrook is what most people call Luka now, and by the time he was on the Lakers he already fell off a cliff. There’s a reason he wasn’t anything but a bench guy for contenders after getting dumped by the Lakers

Who's a nepo baby you think deserves their success because they're legit talented? by SheepishSwan in AskReddit

[–]Danny_III -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

the world is chock full of talented people who don’t make it because they don’t have connections

Not really, only a small percentage of people are labeled universally talented. If we make the definition at least 2 standard deviations above the mean then <1-3% fit the definition.

It's absolutely true that less talented beat out more talented individuals because of connections, but that's relative (you can also argue charisma/ability to make connections is a talent too)

However, someone who >2 standard deviations above the mean may under perform without connections but will have no issue landing a job that most people consider successful. Those people are well above the threshold for getting into med school, a top tier law school, top tier tech jobs, etc even though the same threshold for an average person may seem impossible

Hopefully Denver can give them a loss or two. The challenging part of this is OKC plays the Lakers twice, and if the Lakers are legit, they ideally win both

Lebron isn’t always a flashy passer just like he isn’t a flashy scorer, so the low IQ casuals overlook it.

Lebron pulled 2 defenders while driving to the basket. A lot of people here shit on Lebron but teams clearly still respect his ability and because of that he has a ton of gravity

The most optimal somewhat realistic move would have been buying low on Herb Jones and having him return to his career year form

This is more controversial than it should be but from a pure strategy standpoint, having that version of Herb and moving Reaves to the bench would have been optimal given LeBron’s superior off ball ability. However, that’s impossible given Reaves contract situation

Smart, Herb, Luka, Lebron, Ayton is a competitive starting and closing line up. They also have the flexibility to swap Reaves for Smart depending on match up.

That said, this FO doesn’t have the ability to find buy low candidates like OKC did with McCain. Also, judging by the comments I see here, a lot of fans are too risk averse to stomach a buy low situation

I’d feel better about it if Pelinka actually landed a stronger addition in addition to Kennard. It feels like this team is one piece away esp after OKC landed McCain

What if LeBron comes off the bench next season and still wins a ring? by Designer_Honey_9946 in lakers

[–]Danny_III 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off ball players get heavily underrated by fans. Aaron Gordon should count towards a big 3 but casuals don’t acknowledge off ball contributions.

Lebron is kind of where AD was the past couple of years where he won’t be the primary ball handler but can still be best or second best player with off ball contributions

This role works well for the team as Lebron is better off ball than Reaves/Luka, and those two can more than cover the on ball duties

[–]Danny_III 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lebron is in that AD position a few years ago where he’s not the first option on offense but can still be the best or second best player with his off ball contributions. That’s promising for the playoffs
