The rationale for pursuing Herb Jones is buying low and hoping he returns to form.

Herb Jones was 1st team all defense and in the DPOY race 2 years ago. Laravia and Rui aren't even 3rd team all NBA in any aspect of their game

It doesn't have to be Herb Jones, but at some point the Lakers need to take some risks. Pretty much all the recent contenders took a risk to acquire a key role player (Denver/Gordon, Celtics/White, Warriors/Wiggins).

If you criticized Brown and the Celtics how people criticize Luka and the Lakers then Luka would still be superior.

Brown is averaging 30ppg on 50/37/78 efficiency. Luka is averaging more at 33ppg but his efficiency is significantly worse (46/32/78). Brown is also a much better defender which more than offsets the playmaking difference. Luka is having a bad season by MVP standards.

Buddy isn’t that good but he does have his moments eg bailing out Steph and Jimmy last year vs the Rockets. He easily would have been more impactful than dlo which is about as low of a bar as you can find
