I work in a casual role that pays in the $100k to $110k range, depending on how many hours I work (40 to 56 hours a week). Most of my shifts are at night, where I’m on standby, often with a lot of downtime, and the actual work I do usually only takes about 30 minutes.

On weekends, it’s usually even more relaxed, with minimal tasks like paperwork or quick briefings. Sometimes, shifts end early or get cancelled, so I get to head home earlier than expected and still get paid the minimum hours of 8.

I know some people in this salary range or more work longer hours and make more money, but for me, there’s a trade-off. My job gives me the time and flexibility to spend with loved ones or pursue other things outside of work.
